Hey guys was just after a bit of advice if anyone can help. I'm currently on with a new project 91 dtr i use it off road so top end not to important prefer more bottom end grunt with in reason. My old dtr used to wheelie really well, however my new one seems to struggle a bit i have to use the clutch and relly pull at it to get the front end up, i have the powervalve pinned and bike deristricted just still struggles. Its currently running standard 16 front and 56 rear sprockets was just wondering what you would reccomend to help make it more happy to be up on the back wheel like i said dnt mind compromising bit of top end if it means it wheelies better. Cheers lads

Well yeah go smaller on the front like a 12 for example and change the rear for bigger as well and your probably be able to get it up without slipping the clutch haha, if your using it off road then yeah you could do that but expect to get the top end rebuilt more often

you have later gearing on which should be better for 80 and fast acceleration? if you want low down grunt and wheelies then get a 13 tooth front sprocket (cheap and easiest) will defo notice a difference lol should still be geared for about 55... turning the powervalve slightly towards closed would help too smile

Pinning the powervalve won't help either. That's not a derestriction. If anything that's a restriction. The powervalve does exactly what it says. Gives you more power. It aids power in the low to mid Ron until open fully when you can achieve a higher top speed. If you weren't interested in top end the having it working or a little bit shut would see you with more grunt

Also if the engine is in bad shape then it's not going to wheelie like fresh one.

Cheers guys engines in decent condition just had top end rebuild and rebore and it runs fine just doesnt wheely like my old one, gonna order a smaller front sprocket and see where i go from there, dnt know what gearing was on my old 89 dtr never checked it but everything is almost identicle on my new bike only difference apart from the gearing which i'm assuming is different is the cdi on my old bike came off tzr 125 2rk 1989 race bike where as cdi on this is just standard 90-91 dtr but as far as i'm aware they should be almost identicle as didnt think 90-91 dtrs where restricted at cdi and bike doesnt feel like cdi is retarded it revs really well all the way so its gotta be different gearing but i'll let u know how i get on

Yeah. But just cause the top ends been rebuilt doesn't mean that the engines in mint condition. The bottom end could be on its way out or something similar. Probably not just thought its worth mentioning.

The thing I'd suggest is setting the powervalve up properly. You'll get better performance that way.
