At the end of the day if you make it look like you aren't really serious about riding, they are going to think should he really be riding a bigger bike? Like Andy says they do use a lot of discretion, make it look like you are really prepared have a good safe bike and the chances of passing are dramatically increased.
Who the hell is this guy who says you can't use a DT? you HAVE to do the restricted license on a 125 and DTs are one of the quickest 125s available. Seriously what a ****ing moron most people use crappy ragged 4 stroke that can barely get 65mph ... DTs can push 85 / 90 when fully derestricted.
Iirc the only main requirements is that it has to go over 65 and the sheet they have has a list of what can can't but when it comes down to decent services, condition and modifications that is completely irrelevant anyway.

Did mod 1 on honda cg, would have been so much better on a dt balance and handling wise really didn't make it easy for myself.
Did mod 2 on a dt, was fine just riding around like normal.
Don't give them any excuse to not let you not do it - mirrors, big size number plate, rear reflector, all indicators / lights working and big sized L plates.
+ tyre depth and chain tension, depending on who you have it might even be a mini mot inspection
Phil get a numberplate through ebay, pretty sure you dont need to provide documents to them
Also you can do a dt, if its the restricted i know 125s can be used
No need for indicators on mod1, but with 2 id advise it, but surely it isnt illigel as as long as if you do appropiate hand signals at the right time you dont need indi's, but doing it on mod 2 without them..... You must be confident that your pass to say the least :)
If it was me (and planning not have indicators on the dt which you seem to want) me Id buy a cheap 4 set set of bub indicators off ebay with a relay (LEDS on a DT/most bikes can be so much hassle to get them working right) and wack on them on for the test and remove them after if thats what you want to do, be a lot more hassle to get all of the checks done blah blah without them IMO
I'd have to order that and with the Sunday and New Year's Day I don't think I'll get it in time as iv got it booked for the 2nd also will need mirrors and someone put what looks like an adapter on the right side which has a strange size external thread and I can't get it off for ****! Apparently there's a list of bikes you can/can't use for mod 1 n he reckons the dt is a no ! Only thing I can think off is do it with the training centre again and use there nails of bikes, but even then don't know if they will be able to get me booked in for both mod 1 & 2 before the law change ! Wish I got all this out the way earlier lol.
Didnt read that you had the test so close.... well yeah then unless you can use a bike from a dealership which offers using there bikes for the tests looks like your pretty fooked, why cant you get a new plate from somewhere local, can you not use the green slip which is given to you when buy a bike (part of the v5) as proof or dont you have that as well?
As with not being able to do the tests on the DT, thats total and utter crap lol, so many people on here which have done it on theirs, I would have done if my dt was running nice at the time, there chatting out there arsé
Yeah your deffo cutting it fine, ring around though if one place says all there slots have been booked up, each dealership which offers training buy slots in advance so obvioulsy one place could have no slots and others could have a few
Won't have indicators, and will have mirrors by then I hope! Didn't think of need plate ! Ill grab one today!
I hope you fail your test.
I'm sorry, thats a bit harsh and I only mean this time around... But you really to need to take a long hard think about whether you should be riding bikes.
Although the instructors follow a set of rules with regards to who passes and fails im sure they do sometimes use their discretion. If you turn up on a bike without indicators you will have to do arm signals in the correct way. If you turn up with an illegal number plate or any other defect on your bike that means it would not pass an mot then they are not going to allow you to ride under their supervision.
These people are very experienced riders and ride to a high level. They, and myself and other bikes, wouldnt want someone one the road who doesnt fully understand biking.
You shouldnt go booking your test until you've researched what you need to be able to do for it and you shouldnt be riding a bike without knowing whats legal, whats illegal and whats just stupid.
Go to a bike training school, pay the money, get the traning that will probably one day save your life and ride a bike thats maintained and has a set of mirrors!
Just had a look an yeah I do have that ! So could get plate I guess, but next hurdle is the wing mirror... Can't get this fackin nutt off for ****e!!! An of course my bike isn't restricted guess that won't matter ?
Oh for my mirrors the thread was knackerd, I just glued them in with araldite they held completely solid.
They have no idea what is restricted / not restricted they cannot test or prove anything and it really doesn't bother them to be honest. It will be absolutely fine on a DT
I said I won't have indicators because I won't need indicators for mod 1 and last time I tried to put them on They would just flash as hazards on the back and blow the main fuse, so getting a relay and trying to sort them all out with the terrible condition loom I have as I'm the 10th owner and it seems every owner has had a go at the electrics it becomes a bit of a ball ache for something that Isn't necessary. For mod 2 I will be using the training centres bike as I've already paid to for mod 2 but I failed mod 1 previously because I couldn't get to the required speed for the emergency stop, probably because the old 4 stroke honda with 50k on the clock and the blowing exhaust that's also leaking engine oil wouldn't get to speed by 1kmh !
I can tell you now that my bike is very much maintained and I'm not an idiot that buys a dt just to ride flat out everywhere in a t shirt and shorts just to look cool then sells it two weeks later, I only recently bout it hence the mirror issue and as I go to college and have a job so I'm always busy and haven't got around to sorting the wing mirror issue out yet. But thanks ill let you know if I fail.
also will need mirrors and someone put what looks like an adapter on the right side which has a strange size external thread and I can't get it off for ****!
Try undoing it the other way, clockwise, I'm sure the mirror adapters are left hand threads
i passed mot1 and 2 on my dt dident have mirrors for mod 1 but did for mod 2 didnt use em thou haha
as for indicators my rears stoped working wile out on mod 2 he pulled me over and told me and said iv i can do hand signals that would be fine just make sure you dont turn with your arm out then smiled
+1 on what nev said ,I think only one is left handed thread ,it stops the mirror spinning loose from th wind ,chain guarded should be on th bike aswel as rear foot pegs ,good luck dude
It's a weird one I know but if you need it for mot then surely u need it for the test, you can get away with not having them for mot if the tester agrees it was originally made for offroad use ,as the seat is then classed as a single seat and with l-plates on u can't take passengers anyway so u can get away with the bike only being for one person then u don't need mirrors lights indies pegs chain guard etc etc
Got the adapter off cheers guys you were right ! Much appreciated. Typical that the mirrors I had hanging around didn't fit though ! Think I'm going to have to glue them in place lol...
Good to hear u got the bugger off ,nevs a star I didn't even remember bout the threads till nev said it u can get replacement adapters that have th right size threads ,probs from th same place u get ur plate
Dunno weather that will effect anything ? I booked it or a light motorcycle which I assume is just a 125? The bike I used last time is classed as a a2 it looks
