Did they actually make off road dt's? I always fort they were just ones that could no longer be put back on the road or stolen or something like that!

No. They didn't make off road dt's. Dt's are Yamaha's road going bike. The WR or yz are the off road bikes.

Guess you could always go and view it with the intention of trying to make sure that its yours before doing anything, surely there must be specific things you remember about it, for example maybe you used red electrical tape for the loom, or maybe damage to somewhere where you'd be surprised that another dt would have

And then if you 100% believe them you could confront them about it and if they go all flustered about how they got it or you can tell that they've clocked you that it's your bike, either get the police involved or steal it back ;)

However the thing you gotta remember is that they might not be the ones which stole it off you but it might lead to information on who did if it was yours

Don't understand what the **** is the point in an 'off road DT' just buy a yz or wr and don't ruin a nice bike by bodging the electrics

Good advice been given but definitely ask if you can view it before the auction ends. Look for any little things that would 100% make it yours that you can remember. If so contact the police straight away - I wouldn't tell the guy in case he tries any funny business whilst you are away. Then go back with the police and try and sort it out. As he obviously won't have any receipts or a link with any V5 it doesn't look good really.

Even with ground frame numbers I'm sure you could get it back after all the original theft will have been logged - they do it for bicycles and loads of other property without unique stamps

They made DTR's with the engine number matching the vin number on the headstock, as said before go view it as an anon buyer, check out the engine number ,if you have old v5/mot take that then show him if numbers match, if its a replacenment engine, then yer shagged, but a lesson to be learned here, always stamp frame and other parts, or mark it in some unique way to yourself, but have photo proof also.

what very you do dont call the police there useless ****s and without numbers they will say they cant do anything and make sure you dont.

my mates gixxer was stolen then 2 months later was at college on a different frame and plate we showed them about 100 thines that proved it was my mates inclueding the rear seat cable sticking out scratched on a photo of his bike then showed him the one son the pannles

the wheels had been crappy sprayed we scratched the paint off and could see the original coulor, asked them but the headstem nut has been undone on a 3 year old bike and the top yoke was scratched to fook they said the frame is matching the plate so the bike is not stolen and you must leave we will wait till the owner comes back and leaves

if you come back we will arrest you

I really do feel for you fella. It must be heartwrenching to have your wheels stolen, to then at a later date in your case a year on to see it appear again on site like fleabay. I hope I`m never in your situation fella as I would end up getting lockdown for the damage I would cause the people responsible who had me over for my pride and joy. I Really hope you get her back smile

I think you made a mistake by letting him know you know though and about the engine.

+1 Also this has got me, howcomes in your biography you state that you've only ever had one dtr, the one with the full custom graphics kit and a big one exhaust which I presume is the one in your dp, howcomes there's no mentioning of this dtr you had owned before it was stolen?? I'm intreged But now that you've contacted the seller saying its yours your gonna have to make each oncoming decision wisely and quickly,

How are you so sure that its yours? Just out of interest. Got some photos of yours? I feel for you too man. I very much doubt you will be able to get it back. If you have reciepts showing it with that engine number and a police reference of when it was stolen you may be able to. I'd go for it myself but dont expect it to be easy. He'll no doubt sell it before you get a chance though. I think you made a mistake by letting him know you know though and about the engine.

Dear afreshstart2012,

Dear bigean7,

there was no need to be a complete **** **** when you rang all im trying to do is get my bike back i didnt want to go through the police as that way everybody is in clear i wont answer the phone anymore and il hand this over to the them now end of the day if you can show me papers stating that it was stolen recovered 2 years ago then il dissapear
but there is no way im going to be convinced otherwise that that aint my bike i tinker with bikes everyday i have had loads and each one i remember if you was in my position what would you do?? and no not all dts look the same they are all different in there own way the bike you got there had a whole new handbuilt engine the engine its got in is a 1998 i put it in

Dear bigean7,

ok ian i will ring the police now i suggest you ring the person in hertfordshire thanks

dear afreshstart2012,

my son bought the bike from chessant in hertfordshire,,and got a receipt for the sale,,your more than welcome to go to the police,,sorry to hear you had your bike stolen,,i dont realy no what else to say to you ,,ian

Dear bigean7,

after spending so much time on it and tinkering with it you just know. its definetely my bike and the numbers were on there somebody has ground them off i dont know what to do if you didnt steal it i dont want you to get done for handling stolen goods i dunno what to do it is my bike i have pictures it was a lovely bike and youve totally ****ed it.

dear afreshstart2012

hi,,were is beaumont ?,,,,my son has had it 6 months roughly,,,there are no numbers on the bike,,and my son has been stoped by police on the beach with it ,,they looked it over ,with no problem,,what make you thinks its your one ?? ian

Dear bigean7,

it was stolen from beaumont ,and no it wasnt road legal i didnt have it insured as was for off road ,can you check the headstock (where the forks slide into the frame ) and on the right hand side the vin number should be there and also on the left hand side of the engine casing there should a set of numbers to thanks for your help

Dear afreshstart2012,

if it was your bike was it road legal when it was stolen? where in essex was itstolen from? and did you get paid out from the insurance? and i suggest you go to the police. ian

That's how you don't go about getting your stolen bike back. If you were serious about it you'd done what we said.

think hes means Cheshunt, not far from where i live, also, i hate chavvy pikey scum, 2 of them came down my road which is private and they had no business being there, was working on my bike and the idiot skids his car down my hill and swings it right up close to my bike and tools, reverses up and just starts eyeing my bike up! cheeky prick had the audacity to ask one of my mates to come over and question him about whos bike it was!
