When its got a flat battery I normally find that it does the power valve cycle slower, so yes, didn't notice anything different when riding with the pv on a flat battery thoughp

The cleaning cycle won't work. But it should run off the engine.

as long as your alternator/generator is working it should provide about 14volts to run the electrics and charge the battery when the engine is running

I found it always made it temperamental sometime ok and sometimes not
