So just up me mates 1996 dt125, 700 an the bike is spot on!!! Well near enough spot got some piston slap and low compression so it's gonna need a top end and reborn but apart from that its spot onride would he be okay riding with the top end the way it is or get it sorted ASAP??

I was keeping my eye on that on ebay, looked like a nice original bike even had the dealer reg plate still. I was going to use some of me genuine plastics and decals stash on it. Get it rebored soon as and it should be a sweet one. My plastics n decals will have to wait a bit longer....:) gutted....

sounds good fella the main risk if that piston slap is bad could fail last thing you want is a runined bottom end due the top end going as your have bit of piston or ring in the bottom end and even if you flush it there is no chance your get it all out avoid cost avoid a bottom end rebulid personally id have it done before it happens rather than after

Agree with Vadge the destroyer, i've made that mistake and it cost the shop alot of money as the piston shattered inside the barrel and dropped into the bottom end and destroyed it

8500 since new and it has piston slap ? she should be good for a few miles yet sure it hasnt been clocked ? use the mot history website if that is genuine then fair play !!

top end is only around £110 for rebore, piston and gaskets, definately do it before she blows, blew mine and ruined a brand new bottom end by not restripping and cleaning it out

If that were me and I was on a budget this is what I'd do.

Get myself a genuine head gasket.

Whip the top off and have a quick look at the barrel. Is there still cross hatching on the bore?

Is there any nasty scores? On scratches or damages?

If there is still good cross hatching and no damage then you could just get away with a new piston and rings.

Oh and mate my bike says 6k miles on the clock. Doesn't mean shoot! Bikes done about 15k.

mileage really doesnt mean much for engine condition on 2 strokes, ive ruined plenty of engines with less than 500 miles haha

are you 100% its got a piston slap ? I know ppl that thought bike was dieing and it turned out to be nothing major ... even in the past had one or two bikes that I thought rings was going on and fact was they was fine for at least another 8000 .. rattles and vibrations can some times be caused by other things lose engine mount bolts some thing not bolted tight or against head or caseing that vibrates or rattles ?

but as some one says wip of the head and take a look take maybe 48 h to get a gasket orderd and ready and in the mean time take a look and if need be get some pics posted so we can take a look or even as it is now get some video post to0 youtube and paste us the link .

not all dtrs or bikes sound alike and just cus yours dont sound like ya makes dosnt mean its got problems with ...
