Ok so got my bike back - engine is fine. Just need some help/advice / opinions from here !

So the burn in my seat...shall I just get the middle black strip of the seat replaced with a yellow strip ? Will it look good or shít? Or just get the whole seat recovered all black?

Should I powder coat the rims? I'm thinking blue and yellow halves or quarters with just silver spokes.

Should I fit a trailtech speedo?

I want a kickstart - how hard is this to fit? Does anyone here know exactly what I need? Does anyone have it??

Should I replace the broken headlight cowl with a mx style number board and a light fitted in that?

Should I fit usd forks? - I'm thinking too much hassle...

Should I even bother fitting an ignition barrel? I'm thinking ill just fit a secret switch and rely on my alarm/immobiliser.

Should I gut the standard expanny or get a dep? What end can should i get?

Should I actually strip the whole thing down and get it powder coated etc and make it more of a project? Then I could either try and rebuild as standard Ish. Or rebuild as a totally different bike - get rid of all unnecessary weight - battery, indicators and indicator switch sidestand... blah blah ?

Help por favor.

Firstly the kickstart. I wrote up a whole tutorial in the kickstart sectiom om what you need and jow to do. So please look at that.

Secondly your bike looked wicked as an dtx. There was nothing wrong with that. If it were me i would stick with the dtx look. Get a new dtx cowl, seat. Sort tank and plastics. USD's are lovely but are a lot of work and unnecessary. Only did that for a laugh.

If the rims are damaged then its worth getting them powder coated then relaced with stainless steel spokes. Would look boom ting.

The dep would REALLY finish off the look of your bike.

Ignition barrel id say have but wire in another kill switch anyway. And keep the imobiliser.

The trail tech is lovely bit of equipment. Especially for the dtx since there isnt a rev guage.

But id get a bracket made up so that it fits beneath the cowl. Thats what i did and it looks much better than poking out of the top.

If it were me I'd be tempted going all out on it custom wise but ive seen your bike when it was crisp and it looked wickdd. So i'd aim to get that look again with a full dep system.

More importantly though is how you lock it up. Obviously more aecurity is needed and that is your first point of call.

Was only living in that shît area temporarily so bikes fine now.

Obv I'm gonna keep it like a dt, but thinking ill powder coat the frame and rims and some other bits - levers etc.

Ill scrap the usd's ...heavier anyway right ?

If you want to do all this stuff, then you'll need some £££'s lying around.

Also, you need to remember how all the bolts etc go back on, or come MOT you'll be having a nightmare.

If you do rebuild it, replace all rotten bolts and screws, and don't over tighten anything, like the previous owner did on my DT. EVERYTHING was over-tight.

And if you spend money on the bike, you'll be scared to crash it or be careful on it, so if you aren't going to off-road it again, then go for it. But even then, the road grit will eat through it in time.

It won't cost that much ...

70 for vapour speedo, 140 for rims and levers painted, 120 for dep, 150 for others...so not too bad. Doubt ill strip it back - frame is in good nick. Ill just take some major/easy bits away and give it a good clean!

Yeah right. My usd's are about the same if not maybe lighter. Since they're made out of ally. Made from lighter materials.

Make sure you get the dashboard with the vapor. Thats about £140 all together. Its a must have. And make sure you get the liquid cooled version.

Also it doesnt matter where you live. Its a desirable bike. Thieves will want it no mstter where you park it so well worth getting good portable locls for it.

Dep is £250 for full system new.

Levers are once again megga bucks if you want nice ones.

It all adds up over time.

I've already got a dep end can :)

Hmmm yeah did think about the dashboard...worth it?

Yea it's not gonna get nicked dont worry lol. It's in a gated yard...in a reinforced steel/brick lockup... with an alarm and guard dogs ...And it's locked inside to a metal girder.... and alarmed and immobilised! Just have to be careful when I take it anywhere but I'm normally switched on.

Anyway I can buy bits over time drowning on what I want. Either way I get paid 1600 Ish a month and rent is 300 so meh, normal got a load of cash that I just waste all the time!

Yeah dashboard is a must mate. Without it you wont know when youre low on oil or indicators on or high beam on or when youre in neutral.

Save £100-£200 each month, then after a period of time you can buy a bunch of stuff.

Unless you were buying parts instead of paying the bills / rent, then I don't see how she can rage. Sounds a bit controlling if she's saying you can't buy parts. Probably why I'm better off single.

Give it a clean, added a few spare plastics I had and tried to neaten it up. Also have my newly recovered seat. Just went for straight black, cheaper and not too much looks wise... Here's the result.

Also saw Nath filling up with petrol

So I've just found a place that will respray my rims - half and half colours with black spokes and coloured hub for £100. They said come down and discuss price and colours :D will get them to do the petrol tank too I think!

Half and half rims or quarters..?

Yamaha want £44 for the little plastic radiator scoops...annoying cos the bike looks shît without them! Ill try and find some 2nd hand. They only. Want. £21 for the headlight cowl which is more reasonable !!

Ok, so here are the pics of the two front spare rad scoops of mine

http://s1226.photobucket.com/user/reefvodka/library/DTX%20Fairings

Sticker marks, loads of scratches etc but I'm sure with the right grade of sandpaper, some washing up liquid they could look 'alright' for the moment mate, Obviously prepping and spraying them would be a lot better.

They're all quoting £150 smackers for a tank respray...I reckon I could get a plastic tank fabricated for that :D
