Losing power

So, just replaced my water pump oil seal and oil pump oil seal due to finding oil in my coolant.

Also seem to have another problem, the bike isn't smoking very much and after taking it for a 3/4 mile test ride, smoked white quite a bit. could this be steam? The bike also won't rev cleanly through the rev range, it'll get to a certain point and splutter, it will then start to struggle and in some cases go to die. Could this be a blown head gasket or possibly base gasket?

I'm at a loss here and could really do with some help

Cheers guys

Loosing coolant.

Doubt it'll be steam. Sorry to say this but it more likely sounds like the right hand crank seal. One goes and they all go it seems :/

Hmm that was my fear.. Still in the process of flushing the coolant system out as there's still some oil floating around on the top. So not certain whether I've lost any at the moment.

I put fresh gearbox oil in the bike today after refitting the clutch case.

You won't get the oil out with water mate. Thats a cert. use a parafin. Take it off and top it fit petrol. Swish it around and that'll get around of it.

Good idea, I'll give that a go.

Took the expansion tank of and cleaned that out with brake cleaner, a lot of oil had accumulated in there.

So you reckon it's the crankshaft oil seals?

Already done that NEV, brand new seal as of yesterday, that shouldn't cause white smoke though? or loss of power?

white smoke will be coming from the tranny oil getting in the crank cases via the right hand seal, every engine iv stripped the crank seals are nakerd....

i start recomending it to be a service interval lol.....every 10 000 stick some new 1s in both sidesbiggrin

Yeah I'm ddoing a full rebuild on the YZ so it's new oil seals all round smile

Head and base gasket have just turned up so I'm just gonna give that a shot for the hell of it and pray that it might actually help.

If not then I'll jsut have to take the engine out and do the Crank seals... really hoping it doesn't come to that though cry

u dont need to take the engine out the frame to do the crank seals...do them with the engine in pal...just screw some screws in to them and pull em out

Just finished doing the head and base gaskets, and I've got too coolant pipes that I don't know what to do with.

They both come from the head, one from the thermostat, and both go to the carb but I don't know which one goes to what part of the carb... confuse

Anyone know?

Cheers

Doesn't matter!
Just pipe them up the way that looks more organised and neat, I disconnected mine and just looped the head together and the carb together to see if there was any change that was noticeable!
No difference what so ever my bike still starts second kick no mater the weather!!

Ah, forgot to post that the bike's all sorted now smile

Changed the head and base gaskets (genuine of course) and problem solved!

De-coked everything and had a bit of a go with the dremel while the barrel was off, smoothed the ports and opened them up just a little, The bike goes like stink now hahaha

Cut the black/green wire and earthed that, next week I'll be getting a DEP for her wink

Thanks again for all your input guys
