Don't do a custom pit bike. They're too small and if you buy a Chinese one they're garbage off road. And even if you got a decent Pit Bike frame depending on your height they give back and leg ache. And if you came to selling it, not many people will buy it.
As for bigger engines on them, pretty much useless too. Saw one with a TZR engine recently. Chain was rubbing on the swing arm bet the chain has perished from it, within about ten seconds as well. :|
A go kart on the other-hand. An R1 or R6 engine powered one. Woah, I want one. Would hate to flip / crash one though.

Having finished a couple of cars and bikes I'm looking at moving on to something more custom and fun.
I'm currently thinking of the lines of putting a bike engine into a kart or buggy, but considered putting something big into a pit bike or rear engined mini or something.
In no rush or anything, was after peoples opinions especially if you have already done something like it.
Rather than start from scratch I was thinking buying something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GO-KART-BRM-CADET-ROLLING-CHASSIS-/130945788062?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Other_Vehicle_Parts_Accessories_ET&hash=item1e7cfa289e
and then this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kawasaki-ZZR600-D2-1991-Unfinished-Restoration-Project-Plus-Many-Spares-/171071376602?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item27d4a60cda
Then just customizing it all together, makes it a hell of a lot easier from scratch.
No idea where could drive such thing though and if it would be really worth it to use after it's finished.. would be nice if it could easily be kept and used now and again.
Cheers for the insight boxing, yeah a pit bike was just an option not really my favourite.
That video is awesome, ideal for what I'm looking at but - I can't use it on the road here, I live in the middle of a busy town as soon as I go outside the boys in blue would be all over me. I don't know if it's possible to get a buggy or kart road legal, and if it's even worth it if you could
i'm debating to do up a zxr400 as a project...love em even though they are not the biggest of bikes-they rev for ever though :p
Visit the ZXR forums if you do. And security, they get nicked like DT's, mind you every bike does.
They're supposed to be good bikes. Just don't remove the pipes on the front going into the fairings, or you'll mess the engine up. They're to the air box IIRC.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend doing what that video does. Would take it to a track etc if I had it.
Also, yeah you can get road legal buggies, seen one in Skeggy a while back on holiday. Not cheap mind you and easy to nick.
Also if you do I'd make plenty of room for the head to come off, for topend rebuilds.
Make accessibility easy. Would also make it so it's easy to get the engine in and out, especially if racing it. Would probably get through a lot of tyres with a 500CC lump, mind you.
buy a scooter tile all the body work like bathroom tiles effect and fit a toilet seat and flush box with working water flush epic project and poo on the move ?
