Rough Idle And Stalling At 1K RPMs
Permalink

Hi all, me again, with more DTR problems.

Well the DT is idling rough and rattling, not too sure where the rattle is coming from right now, might be topend.

Either way, bike isn't getting rode again and the engine is coming out (again).

Anyway it stalls at 1K RPMs or if I leave it to tick over on its own.

Once it gets to a certain part of being warm the tapping gets really loud, usually when going down the box and slowing down.

It all started after I was pinning it on a country lane for a while.

Anyway, getting a DTX setup then considering a bottom end rebuild.

Another question, Athena 170CC heads? Are they better than a 3BN head? (I think my bike has a 3BN head.)

:(

My bottom end has done 11,000 or so miles. So the seals are all due etc.

And its had a bad owner, so chances are at some point its been ran without transmission oil.

No worries anyway, going to see if Norfe will rebuild it. Got to save up the money first.

11k miles is nothing for a bottom end bud should do 30k easy before it needs attention

put the tick over a bit higher, to 1500-1600. Reason it's so noisy etc is cause it's idling so low.

... When I got to Sainsbury's I was blipping the throttle and the sound was horrid like metal grinding together.

Comes down to maintenance. I bet you a lot of money my dt will reach 50k miles before needing a rebuild. If i left it standard it would. But it won't cause i'm going to be tuning it. But proper maintenance followed by decent riding will make your engine last longer.

Pinning the bike everywhere and not warming it up. And prolonged heat exposure will all reduce life of the engine

I warm it up properly. Just like pinning it down country lanes.

The bad owner was the one(s) before me. cry
