What are your thoughts on this as a bloke I work with has just passed his test on his fourth try and has just bought a 2005 zxr 636 for his first bike despite the fact he is a complete noob to bikes and has no experience of any kind of being on the road apart from his training. We all gave him a pat on the back and told him well done for passing but surley buying a zxr 636 is madness. One of the nastier blokes at work was going to start up a sweep stake to see how long it will be before he bins it.

Ah, another mid-life crisis, gets a bike at about 30+ never ridden before, does test, proceeds to buy a big bike, dead within a month.
Leave him to it, who are you to tell him anyway, his a grown man, can do what he likes. If he wants a 600CC for his first bike, then so be it. Leave him to it.
Only person you should be really looking out for is yourself. Tell him you think the bike is too big for him etc, if he chooses to not take your advice, then leave him to it.
see it happen a lot my uncle in late 40.s passed his test and went out and got a 1100 cc crashed it with in a month and to this day blames the car driver for pulling out on him . he is now sticking to the lower end 600 cc bikes and now rides like a lady .
Leave him to it, people never listen. My cousin brought an R6 for his first bike, having only ever ridden a 50cc crosser and badly at that. They'll never learn and wont listen so you're wasting your breath. Just hope that if he crashes it's a relatively low speed low injury one enough to scare him into buying a cbr250 and sticking to that lol

You've rode before that though. So doesn't really count.
I think we've all had illegal rides before getting legal. What was your first bike?

hahah im abit ashamed to say but i owned a puch maxi 50cc with pedals an everything i picked it up for 60 quid at 14 years old good old days of paper 7 day wonders an lazy police never following them up , great fun times 3 or sometimes 4 of uz jammed on it to get 5 miles out to the next town where all the birds were ,, but my mate had an ar50 and a ts50 spare so i used to borrow that for weeks on end an loved it more stylish than my puch lol
Haha. I had a puch maxi lmao! Quality bike. I remember when i sold the bike. The chavey i sold it to took most of the engine out and used it as a pushbike so to speak. Lmao! Right dodger ****.
If you ever go to Marrakech in Morocco, theres thousands of Puch Maxis, couldnt believe it - its obviously where they all end up at end of life. Workshops on every street working on keeping them going, its their main transport over there.
