I'd have to mention that alot of bike shops will simply send it off to another company to do the rebore and chuck a bit of money on top. You're best bet would be to pack it up well and send it off yourself. I've used Grampian Motors in Liverpool for my last set of rebores and they did a good job.
£24 for a rebore and around £40 for a mitaka piston kit if i remember rightly. Don't forget a new small end bearing and only use Genuine Yamaha or Athena Head gasket. Wemoto sell top end gasket sets for about £20 delivered.
Postage will probably set you back around £15
Also remember to liberally oil the bore, piston, bearings etc with some 2 stroke oil before you assembly and be careful not to catch the ring and pull it out of its groove on the piston. Make sure the pin in the groove is between the 2 ends of the ring and also most importnatly make sure you pack the crank around the con rod with a clean rag so that nothing ( including piston circlips) can get down into the crank.
If your rebore is your first over side you should be ok but if not check the powervalve isnt going to interfere with the piston when it is turning. If it is then you'll need to mod it by removing some surface. Check in the powervalve section for more info on that.
I believe Grampian will charge if you leave the powervalve in so remove it before you send it away to them.
Thinks thats everything thats worth mentioning and best of luck with it all.
my yammy dealer doesnt do nothing just sits there and tels you they cannot do nothing and they dont keep nothing, so if i want something i will still have to wait so i rather get it from the net.
and there is a shop in hanwell west london that does rebores
Not strictly true though. My local yammy dealer did it on site.
Also a vital part of the bore is cleaning it. And thoroughly removing the honing grit from the bore. Bore killer in minutes.
Well it is strictly true. "Alot" isnt all Cal. I think you'll find you local is an exception. My local Yamaha dealer claims to do it on site and send it off to a local Motocross shop called Boretech. As do almost every other motorcycle shop in the area. Was only trying to save the bloke some money mate.
Round your way then yeah fair enough. Usually it won't cost you any more. Even if they send it away. Since the dealer has bigger bargaining power and can negotiate better rates to which they add back on to make a profit.
yeh sames they gave me a leflet about the power valve and how to take some of it off if it was needed
