Running Premix... How Many Litres From Reserve To Full Tank?

Hi, I'm running premix now, just ran my bike in, but I'm filling up 5 litres at a time with 125ML of 2T.

I'm just wondering if there's at least 10 litres from reserve? So I can whack in 250ML of 2T? It'd be a lot easier than going petrol stations all the time for 5 litres...

Figured it out myself. It's 8 litres from reserve. Or there abouts. Whacked in 250ML anyway and ran it rich, oh well. That tank of fuel got burnt away within three hours on country lanes. :D

Yeah. You're not going to like what i've got to say but here she goes.

When running oil via premix you can block the jets up. The bike wasn't designed to have the oil going through the carb so you may find you'll need to strip the carb once in a while to clean it all out. ESPECIALLY if you leave the bike standing for a long time and the fuel has evaporated leaving the teo stroke behind.

Just something to bear in mind.

A few people run premix on here, don't think they have any issues. Including Norfe himself.

But the bike is never left for a long period. Rather run premix and block the jets and carb up every now and again than run with the oil pump and get through top and bottom ends every hundred miles.

Pfft obviously haven't set your oil pump up correctly.

At the end of the day oil pump is a bitch. If you're happy using premix go for it. Safest thing to do.

Should be obvious when the pump goes. Temperature will go through the roof. Won't smoke up o. Start up.

I've set my oil pump rich than lean.

The oil burns up in the exhaust expanny and silencer anyway, so even without oil on cold it'll still smoke, as the oil will be left over on the expanny and burnt. Hence the need to de-carbon them every so many thousand miles.

Mine smoked like no tomorrow, on cold, and the oil level always went down, still burnt out three topends though. (Two burnt when I had it one before on previous owner(s)) And before people say "oh well it was obvious then" the first topend rebuild was when I first got it, see my 40MPH maximum speed thread.

i bought a dt partly because i like autolube why be that nob who has to shake his bike up at the station and stop all the time to fill up because he cant brim it.

my bikes done about 30k now i got it on 19 only has 25 on the clocks lol stupid thefts and broken speedo cables but in the time i have had it its had one top end rebuild and runs fine on autolube ill stick with the bike was designed

Premix is safer and makes the bike lighter ect and tidies the bike up, but it is a pain in the ass sometimes. I don't do alot of miles, if I did I would go back to autolube to save the hassle of mixing cans and stuff.

Premixing is a walk in the park. 5 Litres from reserve is only a mere 3 litres away from brimming it...

Can do easily 40-45 miles on 5 litres from reserve, and that's pinning it on country lanes, not shifting early and riding easy.

And who cares what people think of you at the petrol station shaking your bike? Just pull the front brake and put the back one on, shake forward and side to side, jobs a good 'un.

Got three 250ML bottles with precisely 125ML marked on it, and always go a little bit over.

Anyway, as stated above, I'd rather run premix than blow up topend's and always have that insecurity thought of "is it getting oil?" I'll know for sure it has oil as I'm running premix. :)

Also carb settings can make it run rich / lean. So it may not of been my oil pump.

The carb won't effect the oil pump mate. That's controlled separately via the pump. And you can adjust via the pump side.

Granted too much fuel will gove you a bore wash but if the carb settings are standard then whats the worry?

Also like said there will be indications of the auto lube failure whislt you're riding. The temp will soar up due to lack of lubrication and increased friction. Bike won't run or sound right. So yeah. It will have tell tail signs.

the way i see premix its made for raceing as when you are raceing you know the revs are going to be high say 6k plus most of the time so you fit the correct lube for these revs but on a road bike.

if you fiill it for high revs it will then foul up your plug you have low revs say going throw a town at max 6k in trafic. so then you fill up for low revs then run the risk of it blowing if you ever go over 6k from not enough lube.

autolube was designed so your bike will allways have the right amount of lube for the right amount of revs end off.
