Ok im just having a little argument on another forum.

Is the standard barrels nikasil plated ? Cause everyone is saying you cant rebore a DT125 cyllinder becuase its nikasil plated. But on this forum everyone is reboring their barrels, And i rebored my dt barrel plenty of times !

The 4FU is nicosil. The 3mb is steel lined. So yes and no.

Agreed. The only Nikasil plated bore on those style barrels is the 4FU which was on one of the later TZR125 series bikes and possibly on TDR125's. The 4DL barrel was as well i beleive.

All other barrels were steel bore and can be re bored to whatever size the max piston is ( around 2mm) aslong as you mod the powervalve.

3MB
3BN
3MB 'p'

They may be confusing the YZ barrels which were nikasil plated as are most motocross bikes.

The belgarda was just the name given to the models of Yamahas that were made in the Yamaha Italia Factory which is in Belgarda, Italy. When I said the 4DL i meant the actual 4DL numbered barrel which was actually cast by Moto minarelli. It was 4DL 00 and was nikasil plated and used an O ring style head gasket.

The other 4DL Belgarda's had 3mb p 00 barrels.

Never heard of Polini. Never heard of Motor Minarelli until started researching the TZR. Is that suprising then? about Polini i mean?

Yes. Very!

They make lots of high spec tuning parts for scooters and small cc engines. As you would expect, italian.

There is lots of stuff i could tell you about them. But this is the bit that bothers me. If Polini made the cylinder, why don't they redistribute it as a aftermarket cylinder. Since we know the cylinder itself is of good quality.

Why didn't they continue making the cylinder as an aftermarket part.

It's eleborate and hush hush if you ask me.

Probably not enough market for it. They wouldn't have expected the Dt125 community to rebuild a bottom end and fit a better crank. Not financially viable I'd what would have been said at the time.

What do you need a better crank? Did the sp have a completely different bottom end?

No but the the other TZR's even witht the ported 3mb p claimed 22bhp, the 4DL barreld version claimed 33bhp. I would imagine they fitted a stronger crank but possibly not.

Highly highly highly doubt it's 33 bhp at the rear wheel. Maybe at the crank.

Well i'll be stripping that 4dl soon. So i'll be able to find out.

Either way though, it was claimed hp of 22 on one and 33 on the other so theres large difference. It would only be on the model with the 4DL nikasil plated that would tell you. The 4DL 3mb P just had a different gearbox i believe (compared with the DTR).

Yeah. So scrin says.

Completely mad. Would love to own that sp cylinder. Serious bit of kit.

Even just to have a go on one. See what they're like.
