all this talk over programmable ignition..yet whenever anyone asks for proof..nothing shows(ON A DT125R)

you show me evidence that this will make a huge difference??( on a dt125r or similar 125)  someone was selling one here a while back..when asked for proof how it works..it went all quiet

Regardless of not changing stator..it is lot of work for very little if any gain?? i've told him my experience and work around- which is a proven and working method-up to him if he wants to take my advice :p

Hello... a few too many topics on this which is getting me a tad confused.

I have a 2002 dt125r and i heard the cdi is not as restrictive as some??

Or isit still best to go for an older cdi?? If so which model??

Thanks

I know what you're talking about. I would love to see an example of a dt running custom ignition map. But i'm telling you they're not mapped for racing. A proper custom ignition will allow you to retard the ignitiom at high rpm allowing over rev of about 500 rpm when the limited is lifted to 13k.

What does this mean. Well if you on my bike there is no power after 10k rpm. Why? Cause the port/time area for that sort of rpm is insufficient. Not enough charge is being expelled out of the exhaust port and the intake is too late. This is fine for 6-9 k rpm. But if you want real power then you want to shift the power up to 10K plus. A custom ignition and a cylinder ported to match will see you a huge power gain! But i agree. A custom mapped ignition without any mods won't see any benefits. But the moment you touch the cylinder at looking for more power then an custom ignition is a must. To achieve every ounce of power you will need to look at retarding the ignition at high revs to allow for over rev characteristics to occur.

Pre 1996 is the best cdi's labeled 3rm i believe. However you eill then require the 3 wire powervalve servo. The 2002 cdi's are rhe most restrictive. But follow the derestrictions and you'll have a full power cdi. It is only then the ignition mapping that is restrictive. A prgrammable ignition controller solves that one.

wouldnt worry about the cdi mate...mine is 2001 (same model as yours) fully derestricted now- and just as quick as any others out there! Standard(gutted pipe),no airbox mods except snorkel removed and will go over 80mph!! leave it as is !!

Lol. Even fully restricted my bike did over 80 mph indicated. Just the restrictions means it takes a while.

The one i have found is from a 93 model dt. The plan would then be custom loom, so would i still need a 3 wire pv?? And hopefully ditch the speedo restrictor??

Also where can i get a programmable ignition controller??

no need to change anything my friend! mine is 2001 model -as fast as any other DT out there.. why bother creating a headache for yourself. You would need to change stator plate, wiring, powervalve,cdi...for what reason?

Don't even need to change the stator plate mate. Not according to scrin. I thought you did.

And there are massive gains to be had from a programmable ignition. Fact is is the dt ignition curve is crap. What do you expect its a reliable machine. Say no more.
