Winter coming now, time for my bike to be cleaned, lubed and stored away. not a fan of riding in the ice,snow...general cold lol.
in my line of work i see too many fatalities, and with a family to provide for- cant take risk of coming off and injuring myself even slightly.
Anyone else pack up for the winter and go back to 4 wheels?
Ive washed, dried, wd40'd and lubed chain, anything else i need to consider? prob gonna be stored away for 2-3 months i think? Will still go and kick it up every week or so.
Yeah mate, my plan for today was to empty the last pertol out the tank and tuck her in for the night since I am on a day off/
Started drizziling so never bothered, need to get the bike stored though, disconnect and bring the battery in ect. Quite a few jobs I need to sort out over the winter so the bike is tip top next summer, mainly oil seeping from my gear shft seal and the bottom of my right fork leg. Also need to re join my dep with good putty. and give it a polish and seal with that AC50 stuff.
yeah had battery on charge the other day- fully charged -so my alarm shouldnt have any problems :p
also need to buff my DEP silencer up too. think also need to fit some quality mirrors and connect the rev wires for my vapour unit. also considering purchasing rear stainless steel hose pipe to match my front -not decided on that yet.
May also consider another winter project if wife lets me hahaha
that gear seal is 2 min job- i did mine cos small leak
Yeah the reason it is leaking is because of the powdercoat , only problem I found so definatley was a sucess on that front.
Winter project wise, I am giving it a miss this year just tinkering with an engine I am re building as a spare. The reason being I only have a small shed 50m from my house and I know I will get fed up running power by extension lead in the snow and cold ect. Would be heaven to have a nice well lit warm garage where I would be definatly doing another project bike.
The rev counter wire is the easiest job you can do, cant beleive you havn't done it yet lol?
I got some nice mirrors of ebay, they are small but just enough for good visability.
Drain the gearbox if you're storing the bike. The oil damages the friction plates if left standing for too long.
Also drain the coolant. Otherwise it could stagnate.
Make sure when you get her back and running next year that you pour some two stroke down the cylinder. A few kicks then a bit more oil so you completely coat the cylinder walls in oil.
i had originally had the rev wires connected- then had a complete meltdown in my wiring and never reconnected it when the wiring was repaired. so gonna get soldering iron out and do properly
oh yeah and i'm rebuilding my spare engine too hahaha -in the middle of putting gears etc back in -cant get motivated to do..hahaha- already have crank rebuilt with new man bearings sat either side :p

I hear people say this in the past and tbh sounds crazy to me .
if your putting it away for over 6-12mths than maybe .
I have store many bikes in the shed for all maner of time frames with out ever draining the coolant or gear oil and never once had any problems main thing to drain is fuel tank and carb beyond that a good lube and spray with wd40 cover it up and store indoors and should be all good .
give it a kickover and little warm up every now and then and all should be good .

Av just parked mine up for the winter and I was talking to 1 of my local mechanics whos got a busa that he parks up for 6month of the year and he says he fills his petrol tank up to the top and gives the bike a good clean then wd40s all over nd changes his coolant to antifreeze that's it
havnt read the entire thread but the yamaha manuals for the motocross bikes say to put a spoonful of 10/40 down the plug hole and turn the engine over without ignition.
cover the exhaust to stop moisture getting in.
acf 50 is good stuff.
drain the carb bowl and top the tank up completly.
