Have noticed when I put front brake on and push up and down on front forks hard there is s loud single click.doesnt do it everytime and you have to push down quite hard seems to be when the forks reach the bottom of there travel.also doesnt do it when riding it.any thoughts on what this could be.thanks
Don't think you want to bottom out the forks. How old are the forks? Is there any oil weeping from the seals? How much resistance is there in the forks. Do they rebound up in a smooth motion or is slow and sluggish? When travelling down are there any flat spots. I.e. is it stiff then loose then stiff then loose as if something is obstructing it.
Bikes a 2003 so forks probably about 10 years old dont know of oils ever been changed.forks seem to perform ok push down and they rebound straight back up.no oil around seals or on chrome bits.doesnt do it all the time I have a large step I have to push the bike up to put in garage and does it nearly everytime then but if I put brake on and pump really hard it also does it.doesnt do it on the road though
Will have a look and check the front wheel I know theres 3 loose spokes on the front wheel the rear suspension has got quite a bit of play aswell so thats another job
I no the list is never ending the rear end doesnt knock at all but if u lift the back up by the grab rail I can feel a bit of play before wheel comes off the ground doesnt seem to be any play in the front end at all so dunno where the noise is coming from
yea thatll be your linkage bearings and bushes and possibly the bushes in the bottom of the shock. a very tiny amount of play in each bearing and bush can amount to a lot of play overall,
if you can get someone to lift the back up by the grab rail for you u can get under there and see where the play is coming from

Will probably just buy another linkage off breakers.if I lift the rear end up off the floor by the grab rail it lifts quite far before the wheel cones off the ground
yea mine did after I replace the linkage parts but it was the one in the bottom of the shock that was really ****ed. if u can get another linkage knuckle then replace all the inners then swap it over so u still got a ride.. better doing the whole lot tbh m8y. swinger pivots aswell
will give Yamaha a ring after xmas and get price no doubt will be stupidly expensive lol do they do all the bushes aftermarket and is it all easy to change
Might be worth looking at dont suppose you still know the sizes.the clicking on the front happened on the road today when I had to brake quite hard I could feel it through the handlebars aswell but everything seems ok will it be a mot failure
Whats easiest way to get front end off floor without a ramp and energized whats that mean.
starting to lose heart with this now seems everything thats touched something else breaks
Coupla house bricks and some timber should have her off the ground. Then once you've got the front end in the air see how the handle bars fall to each side. If both sides don't fall at the same rate or if it seems very loose then the bearings are shot (or need tightening up(Bodge)). If the clicking sound from the front end comes at the same amount compression on the forks every time then it is deffo the bearings. Had this problem with a TT-R 600. I will be doing my steering head bearing soon, just had my bike back from being declared as a cat D just because the steering head bearings were shot after some TW#T pulled out on me 100 yards from home!!! So i would say it would fail its MOT .
This is on a Honda xr250. But because its an import they couldn't fix it apparently wtf? It is fairly straight forward replacing them on any bike but to do it properly you need to press them in. If you try and drift them in (because they are very interference fit) you might knacker the bearings and your back at square one. If you don't have access to a press you could make your own like in this video, its the same principle but a bit ghetto and it might work.
Today I stripped the top yoke off and removed the castle nut etc.bearings looked good so packed in a load of grease and put back together.clicking has now gone :)
Ha got to love the grease only a couple of things left to do know mechanicaly then can start tarting it up cosmetic wise if I can be arsed lol might just leave it as it is
