Bought a KX 80 & KX 100 (stripped cluttering my shed up with its parts!)
The KX 80 I got like this:
It ran fine, until I rode it around for a while and blew it up!
How it sits at the moment:
Planning on getting the engine fully rebuilt and whipping a 100's topend on.
Going to put the KX 100's carb on, and the exhaust from the KX 80 will need modifying so it'll fit on the KX 100's topend. As the spring locations are different on the exhausts.
The bike was wrecked when I bought it, the topend was only holding on by two bolts.
And it had a gearbox oil leak (crack under the engine.)
I just rode it until it blew up.
Going to scrap the 100 topend idea, I reckon. Make it all original how Kawasaki intended for it to be. Then sell it if I can get the right price, if not it'll be a little toy while I save up for a YZ 250. :D
No bikes a big step up from the other tbh. Rode a 650 Dominator just fine, wasn't legit on it but could handle it fine. 2 stroke will have less power but on the back wheel in the bands.
You can ride any bike if you can do gears, it'll only go as fast as your right hand makes it go. :)
There is riding them round a field at your own pace that is different. But a 250 crosser isn't a bike jjst to be used on some field. I assumed you might be in to proper track riding by which i would say 250 2 stroke is difficult skill. I've riden big bikes on the road and as you say it goes as fast as you want it to. But then on the track it's a differnt ball game. And crossers have a very skillful ride about them.
Sorry not really what i mean't. I mean't that. 250 is a serious machine. Riding on a field is good fun for a while. But you can do that on a dt. Which is why i just assumed that if you had a kx250 you would probably want to do a little more than field ridding. My bad sorry.
Ive road bikes since I was 6, tis a long time ago lol, the last big off was giving my rm250 slingshot biglicks on a field, flat out in fifth gear on back wheel, front came down hit a brick sticking out of ground and turned bars sidewards, the result was I was pile drived into the ground, broken coller bone and tore ligaments out of my shoulder and out cold for 15 minutes, 3 bouts of physio over 3 years to get shoulder back to normal, bike was worth about £2700 at the time, after that £175 scrap, it was as destroyed as my shoulder, A Fit Crosser has a habbit of biting you when you unleash them where they should not be so don't take one for granted, on tarmac they just spin up, on grass they bite in and take off like scalded rabbits LOL.
Take care and have fun :0)

2.7k for a rm 250?
crashed so bad only worth scrap metal? not even the carb and cdi were salvagable?
if you are going to talk out of your arse for whatever reason....atleast try fool us

Why, thats what I got for it. I didnt break it as in parts and didnt think about breaking it at the time but thats what I got for it, as it was destroyed so whats your problem.
Ah you got the big wheel? Fair enough, i cant ride super mini's, im 6'3 with long ol legs so i stick with the big bikes, kx450f & 250 atm
I remember at the practice track once there was an expert around your height on an 85 big wheel, was ****ing rapid clearing all the jumps, never underestimated 85's capabilities again lol
Can sit on a field all day long on a big 250 yet I'd give you 10 minutes on a track riding it competive, rode mx for a good while now and I know the difference between riding a field and track! Was giving a Ktm 250sx for a session and lasted about 20 minutes and even then I came of exhausted had nothing on my 250f which I could throw round all day! Saying all this tho give me a 125 again and I'll happily sing it all day long till the top end goes pop! Just wasn't fit enough at the time to race one so went with the 250f

love the 250f's though; i always find when i actually mean business and want to race as hard and fast as i can i always come crawling back to the kx250f...

Yeah the 250f's are very nice but I can be lazy on one, were as on a 125 I'll work it more and push my self more! Do miss my 250f tho! Although I was a red not a green ; )

Engine is with Norfe now. The reed block fell off and killed the top and bottom end.
The crank seal was the wrong way around blocking the oil off as well. And the oil leak wasn't a crack in the bottom end, someone took clutch case off and bodged instant gasket sealer and didn't do a good job with it, so it leaked gearbox oil. And all the clutch springs were different lengths. I guess that's why the clutch kept slipping.
Just need to get a couple of bolts here and there when the engine comes back and new chain and sprockets as mine are gone. Probably better off buying new tbh.
Also want new plastics as mine look rubbish in white. Looks like a old YZ 80.
Been offered a 2000 KX 60 in mint condition, thinking about taking it tbh. £400 and a little ripper hah. Doubt I'd buy it tho tbh.

And then realised that the throttle is stuck wide open.
Ordered a new throttle cable. And got some pictures of it together.
Then left it in the shed, came back the next day, and find a puddle of oil on the shed floor.
At this point I'm pissed. The throttle cable already annoyed me now a transmission oil after spending £470 on the engine...
So I dropped the sump bolt, was some oil left in there still, and then topped it up with 700ML's of red coloured oil.
Then set about finding the source of the leak.
So I asked what it could be, and it turned out to be a little seal behind the sprocket... £3 later that leak is fixed, back in the shed it goes.
Come back in the shed the next day, near enough the whole 700ML of oil is on the floor again, now I'm fuming. Obviously wasn't coming from the sprocket this time, as it wasn't even balanced to the left in the shed, I put it on the centre on a bucket.
Dropped the engine, filled it up with oil, left it for 5 minutes then came back to see if it had leaked, sure enough....
Right gasket was leaking. Dropped the oil again, went and got some instant gasket sealer, and set about stripping the case off.
Then when I found this I was in a state of disbelief...
The water pump is gone. It wouldn't move with my hand, it was seized shut, and had all metal where its been sheering.
Yeh... See thats why i dont trust old bikes, especially a little small wheel 80!! Lucky you didn't break anything matey, im sure 6th gear pinned on them is around 50mph...
Heat seizure. The piston was scored when I fixed oil leak. I thought it wouldn't be too bad though, but was wrong.
What scored it was starting it up with the throttle locked open. Had a aluminium lining, so gets hot real quick so needs a good warm up. I started it with the throttle stuck open about three times but quickly hit the kill switch (was trying to fix the throttle cable but it was fubared in the end.)
And well, I still put it back together and rode it, and the rest is history.
