does anyone know how good this is / says no need to treat rust b4paintin just remove loose rust etc n clean then paint .
Not expectin it to be pretty so long as it stays on and looks tidy am sick of rustin frame so while engines out gonna attack it with the wire brush on my drill then try this paint..
thanks for the replies fellas
am going to wire brush the areas first wiv drill as clean as poss ! not too fussed as to the finish too much so long as it keeps the damn rust at bay .
7yrs old n used every day but now showin the signs.
Avin engine rebuilt as well new seals crank bearings n rebore hopefully bein reassembled by Norfe very soon .
monthly pays a bitch.....
if you've got any panel wipe that might help, just gets rid of any oil and s*** to prevent any contamination occurring and showing up through the paint; thats if you're bothered about that
the rust needs to go though otherwise later down the line it will eat its way through again
Personally I use about 2 coats of primer from rattle can, then a couple of top coats enamel if poss, then heat resistant lacquer, has always worked for me.
Red or Grey oxide primer or even White depending on colour you're using top coat, for your top coat use enamel spray (colour of your choosing)and heat resistant lacquer, Halfords stock these, I use a place local to me called Trago Mills, for mine, same as the Halfords stuff, but a bit cheaper
thats great help Nev cheers mate got halfords just down the road was thinkin tryin blue head n barrel So which primer ? grey ? what kinda price am i lookin at here for enamel paint ? any kind of rough guide as to how many cans i would need And heres the biggie how to paint without sprayin mating surfaces ?? Thanks again for helpin this oldie get sorted Dave
ps sorry for the list

Grey primer aye, about £6-£8 per can, ball park, one can primer, enamel and lacquer for barrel and head, try and spray horizontally or you'll get runs, spray about 8 inches away, and slowly build up, bout the best info I can offer ya mate, mask off any areas you dont want spraying, clingfilm or silver foil, does a good job for masking as well as using tape, or newspaper depending on how big an area your spraying
got engine out of frame as it died want to tidy her up before it goes back in just concerned as to not paint the matin surfaces
dont want a build up of paint there do i !
Am good with the masking up as av to do that in my job every day
Dave
if your wanting to do your frame, you could take it to your nearest structural steel engineering shop, they spray steel every day, theres a big chance if you go down, and ask the sprayer there he'll do it in his dinner hour for you, should only take half an hour, and maybe do it just for a good drink too, say £20 quid, all geared up for red primer there, as all the structural steel gets a coating of primer before it goes on site.
looks good ... just watch for any screws or bolts left in place as when you do want to losen or remove em they may want to crack or take paint with them
well here they are freshly sprayed ! sometimes havin shakey hands is a plus never in one place long enuf to cause runs lol at this rate it'll get put back together b4 my birthday in march i hope lol damn these dark nights !!! Doo
I painted mine with that exact paint when I got my bike 2 months later it scrapes Off, that paint takes ages to dry even in. A heated room and even thin coats runs
Painting On rust just covers it, and it will bubble up again,
If you can be botheredI would recommend shot blasting it and powdercoating, you will only do it once and looks amazing
