This morning riding to work there was a strange vibrating noise at low revs.on the way home it was still there.after around 5 miles the vibration almost went.but then the bike lost bottom end power and was a bit boggy but over 6k revs it still had power.i nursed it the last 5 miles home without letting go of throttle as could tell it would cut out if the revs got low.pulled up on the drive let the throttle off and it cut out snd now it wont start.have got a spark but the plug is black the threads are oily and the tip is a blacky grey colour.but still seems to give a strong spark.feeling the kick start there is still feels like theres compression if maybe a tad low.think the black plug is due to the mixture being completely mullered plug was wet and smelt of fuel have ordered replacement carb.also tried a spare plug and still no start.sorry if this is in the wrobg section werent too sure where to put it.any suggestiobs greatly appreciated. Thanks
you say you changed plug ? is there a good spark with the plug resting against head
and strange sounds of feelings when you try to kick it ?
maybe take exhaust of if possible have a look at piston and rings also any signs of oil in rad once its sat over night same as is water level ok along with any signs of water in gearbox oil .
Water levels ok will check for oil after work tomoro.theres a good spark when resting on exhaust.plug smells of fuel but I know the carb is seeping fuel from the seals and the mixture screw has been partially drilled out and hole filled (bodge till I found another carb).new carb was ordered yesterday.compression feels ok but im sure it used to feel stiffer and has felt less for a couple of weeks.is it possible to do a compression test with engine cold.maybe all this is linked to the top speed issue I have.glad ive got a car as a backup.also you can hear the piston moving up and down when you kick it.is this normal didnt sound rattly when riding it home though.
change the plug. i was strugling with my other dt for the whole day to get it started, took the head off took the magneto off to check if woodfoof wsnt snaped at the end of the day put a new spark plug in and it started 1st kick without easy spray
New plug fitted tonight still nothing kicked over about 15 times removed plug again plug wasnt wet and smelt very slightly of fuel.should it be dripping with fuel after that many kicks in various throttle positions.also when kicking over exhaust made a funny squelch y noise only way I can describe it lol.but only did it the once
is the float sticking in bowl, cutting off fuel/? try undoing the drain screw at bottom of float chamber see if petrol pisses out. Theres a start anyroad.
compression test, take the pipe off and look up the port at the piston/bore condition. check fuel is coming from the tank, check the filter that sits in the fuel inlet on the carb.
Keep trying things until you find the cause. If compression feels like its gone down then chances are the rings/ piston are damaged so the best option imo would be either the top end off or even easier the exhaust option.
If that all looks good then its a carb problem. Strip, clean ( including all jets) and check the carb settings.
If it turns out its dirt in the carb blocking jets then trace back where its come from. ie. fuel filters in carb and tank damage. air filter needs cleaning replacing.
Will see if I can get the exhaust off tomorrow and have a look.drain screw on carb is rounded off butvthe carb is wet with fuel not enough to drip but its definetly leaking.what about spraying easy start into the air box whilst kicking it will a 2 strokevrun on easy start might help diagnose fuel fault.air filter was cleaned and oiled a couple of weeks ago.surely there would be no compression at all if top end had gone though.
After trying the fuel down the cylinder it still refuses to start and theres definetly compression still on the kickstart also if it was a piston issue surley it wouldnt of got me the 5 miles home still with plenty of power in the powerband.the engine still sounded sweet just deep like there was a hole in the air box really boggy sound
hard to pinpoint what it could be chances are if one of us was standing by the bike we would find the problem in seconds but its hard by reading how some one else says it feels or sounds ..
only thing I can say is dont keep tinkering with diffrent things do things in a order almost a check list in your head eliminating what is ok one by one should lead you to what is not ok .
so try to work out is it
mechanical - engine -gearbox -pv ect
fuel/air combustion - spark - power - air leaks -pv -seals -
electrical - cdi /coil- wireing lose connections or bad earths - plug - cap- cut out switches -
test and check each part and cross them of as good in your head or on paper .
you had the exhaust of and looked at piston-rings with a light is the compression good or just ok ?
SOMETIMES a little video trying to kick it or push starter down with your hand and sounds or rattles can help us guys try to help .

Understand what your saying will see if I can get a video.its hatd to say about compression it feels ok though like it has been for a while.will see if I can get a compression tester tomorrow and do a cold compression test
Ohh really might be piston after all then will whip the exhaust off tonight and take a pic of the bore and piston more money lol
thats only my opinion butraly looks way to easy to kick and sounds like no commpression . see what others say also
still good to take zaust of and have a look . tbh when a bike is used lots I take the zaust of at least once a month just to clean up bolts and lube them a little .. saves from breaking them if they become rusted to death . and good to keep a eye on the old piston
try get some good light up there and take pics if need be .
Very silly idea to try and start it with your hand. quick way to a broke wrist.
Very low on compression. Sounds like piston/ring issues to me. Id take the exhaust of and see what you can see. Looks like its only held on with a cable tie anyway :P.

yeah I got a kick back once it bloody hurt . and lol at the cable tie
Oi thats my professional exhaust mount took me ages to make that
Well that confirms it must be the top end as theres definetly not enough force there to break someones wrist.was only using my hand cos had to hold camera aswell
