does anyone know how much a garage, or who ever does it, would charge to take apart the carburetor and give it all a good clean? no part replacement just a clean up
Is your friend good with bikes? Have you seen him carry out mechanical work? Is he lazy / sloppy with it? If so I'd pay the extra £ and go to a garage. And of course, if the garage cocks it up they have to pay for it out of their pockets.
Just something to think about.
Also hope he isn't high when his doing your carb, lol.
yeah unless he has some real kit for the job then not worth paying ..
as he is only gona do something you can do for your self .
I can clean a carb in under a hour
- tooth brush some petrol - one or two bits of pip and maybe some straws - compressor not always needed but comes in handy - and relivant tools screw drivers and adjustable spanner
also the secret weapon ... some wire strands from a old mountain bike break cable .
I have even removed anything rubber or plastic and put them over the cooker flame old varnish fuel bubbles out like a charm .
Aye you clean the carb in an hour, but then there's the taking off and then putting it back on the bike, then starting, adding some extra time on the job. and providing all goes well 1/2 hour to an hour.
I paid him to do it in the end, he only had last night free because he is going away for a couple of weeks
To clarify this is not the dt carb, its the carb off of my kx250f 09
He said for future reference how to do the jets and that, but he said he took everything apart and cleaned it all out, then oiled it all inside with the same oil he uses for his paintball gun internals??
i have to replace a screw that snapped where the throttle cable go's into the top bit of the carb thingy lol, but he says that the carb has electrical sensors inside and when trying to get the screw out i shouldn't touch them or anything or it will all go ti*s up, didn't really understand tbh
