opinions on the aprillia rs 125

Unreliable if you don't maintain them, as are all bikes.

With 15K miles I'll be looking at the topend. Piston is probably on its way out, if it hasn't blown already hence selling it.

Put it in first, put weight on the seat and push it forward with the clutch out. If it starts after a little push, walk away it has low compression.

Also don't forget to test ride it and take it down a nice 60MPH road and see how it goes... Owner won't allow this without the money in his hand though.

Also check if the engine has been warmed up prior. If it is either sit down and have a cup of tea for it to cool down or walk away. Nine times out of ten they're warmed up prior to hide something bad it does when cold...

Heres a link to it looks very clean.he said it was last rebuilt around 5 months ago just before he bought it.however that rear brake only sometimes work He's also quite tall so hopefully it will be ok size wise.

Callum is your man for info on these as has one or hes bro has.
But these are wkd bikes but high mainatance and parts arnt cheap. But imo worth it for an awesome bike, if u can afford it. Probably the fastest 125's as standard out there. I had the rs 50 and it was a absolute pile of ****, wasnt maintained by previous owners n tbh i didnt really maintain it. As i couldnt afford it lol. Bottom end and or top end was shagged the exhuast was more holes than metal but it still used to do 55 on a flat road lol. Wish i kept it knowing what i know now : (

Went and looked at the rs today.the seller described it as mint on the phone.where to start the panels had been aerosoled and had orange peel and cracking everywhere.most of the fairings where held together with cable ties.i asked him how long he had itand he said a year.i then asked is it easy to remove fairings he replied I dont know ive never taken them off before.so iys had 0 mmaintenance done in the last year.on the plus side it did run really well and took it out for a spin cant believe how quick it was compared to the dt but had to walk away as it had obviously not had any maintenance done to it

Just because he doesn't know how to take them off doesn't mean he didn't take it to a garage for repairs. But I doubt a garage would tie-strap the plastics on.

Sounds like its been abused.

Also isn't the 2 stroke tank under the seat on these? So you have to take the seat off to top the oil up???

Electrics can be a bit of a nightmare on them being italian (had to push mine 7 miles once lol)

Like with any bike make sure the engine sounds healthy and has good compression, had one engine **** itself, big end exploaded meaning another walk home lol.

Other than that really fun bikes!

Engine sounded sweet was quite shocked how quietly it ticked over could hardly hear it was running took it through the gears and pulled really well.was just a bit concerned with the maintenance side of things but he did say he hardly ever used it.i am quite tempted to get one myself tbh.also the bodywork let it down as it had been rattle canned badly.loved the digital temp gauge

How are tzr's and nsr's better just wondering?
I personally think the swingarm and frame on the rs 125 are beautiful when polished
it clearly outperforms it's rivals in speed,handling,aftermarket parts and popularity
I do have a soft spot for yam's but can't argue with the fact's the only negative i think to bring to the table is it may be
slightly less reliable and this is more down to the owner to be honest

its mainly down to taste but also my 2000 nsr did just as well as any rs and my 4dl well it just raped them all for around the same price at the time but much more reliable .

now if I had to say what bike was more reliable and just as fast I would have to say the nsr

I've finished building my 4DL block. Whilst yes it won't be in a TZR it'll be interesting to see how it rivals against the RS.

From purely an engineering view point. I just cannot see how my 4DL even compares to the rs in terms of porting and crankcase. Even with mine mick abbey tuned. It is far from the standard of the Aprilia.

Only time will tell and it will be an interesting time.

Just no way or every rs 125 you came up against had a combination of a crap rider/engine, i have only ridden a rs125 out of the 3 bikes named. But the owner said the only other 125's that keep up are the cagiva mito's

i'm sure the NSR and TZR are fast but i think the RS just has that extra few hp

maybe so .

every rs owner rider I met talked about how rapid they are and will dust any 125 out there but then again I can get you the same tzr-nsr or 125 cc pitbike riders that make the same claims along with some moped riders .

was just giving my opinion tell your mate to go ahead and get a awsome rs I am sure he will be happy with it ..

Standard tzrs/nsrs are slower than an rs, but the special edition "rare" nsr/tzrs are more powerful. Just check out some videos, the proper dogs b0llocks TZR 4DL SP set up correctly, fully tucked in perfect conditions will hit 120mph. I remember seeing an old video of a bloke in Porto land who had an SP, with another mate who also had one. They were mega fast, you could just tell by the video.

very true .

the 4dl is a awsome bike to ride feels like your sat on a 300cc and handles just as good nice and tight and no speed wobble at top end the nsr felt much lighter and althou could reach good speeds did feel like a gust of wind could blow you over .

that said I loved my nsr and was very happy with both bikes on the road with almost no real problems as to running .

not being a fan of aprilias of any kind I did own a rs for a short time just a buy clean and sell bike but hated every second of it .

thats why I said the nsr-tzr parts are everywhere and not to bad price wise the tzr alone as you know dtr/tzr parts are all over easy to work on and cheap bits can be got easy and fast you could say the same with the rs .

why is he sett on a sports type bike ? has he riden them always I found they used to kill my back and wrists and after a good ride could hardly stand up streight after that said the dtr also is a ball crusher and find you always try sitting back on the seat for comfort .

maybe some thing like a veradero or tdr would be ok also .

Hes set on a 2 stroke but hes only 20 so wants so really wants a sports I like the riding position on my dt bit uncomfortable at times but only use it to work and back.great fun to ride aswell.he likes the nsrs aswell but there a bit of a pain to derestrict unless you get the italian import.quite surprised how much a 3mb head has transformed my dt

Mitika sell pattern barrels for the Mito and Rs for £200 parts are good plus a lot get neglected and parted anyway

Yep plus they are plated so they should last a while longer than a normal bore. I'm building something like this out if mine if he is interested

i bought it to do it up and sell it :D same with the dts after my bike got nicked im trying to make some money back to finally buy a bike for myself. last owner had this bike for 2 years and spent sht loads into the bike and than some cnts vandalized it outside of his house so he decided to sell it
