My brothers DT had the same problem.

Once less thing to worry about mate when they nick it. They won't smash the ignition barrel. Also it's just as easily hot wired. Wouldn't worry about it mate.

Personally I don't go anywhere without a disc lock and chain.

yeah they can be tirn on with almost anything .

as cal says dont worry about it do not put any faith in your ignition or stearing lock they are both bypassed easy and are for the sake of a mot mainly .

if it realy worrys you think about fitting a hiden kill switch and never leave the bike unatended it realy takes seconds to steal and ride away .

these bikes and many more realy can be stolen in like gone in 60 seconds think about and test how fast you can run up to the bike when warm and been running turn it on and ride away well a theif can do it faster .

if poping in the house or a shop for a paper no matter time of day or where you are always take 10 sec to wack on a disc lock or even a cheap D-lock throu the forks .

My TS50 ignition barrel was so worn you could do this, the key used to pop out in the on position as well lol. Used to kill me, only being 16 at the time mates would just jump on it and **** about on it when I wasn't looking lol.

My KLX doesn't even have an ignition barrel though so, if they want it a steering lock definitely won't hold them off very long!

My barrel key starts jcb diggers

Mysteering lock key starts Massey Fergusons across most the range, New Holland tractors, and big John deers

Although a little wiggle On the second key, so Yamaha has multi purpose keys

I bet the majority of people asking isn't because of any key turning theirs on. Bet they've had someone mess their barrel up trying to rob it, or need a barrel for their "field" bike they're about to ring. no

As for Danny, to be honest mate, I'd just leave the barrel on. Unless it needs replacing just leave it. The DTR's have a rubbish immobiliser (if they have them) can start the older ones with a wire or two. In fact, I'll get a wiring diagram and tell you how many wires are needed without going into detail...

Yeppers, looks like two wires and it's going up the road...

And here is why I'll never own a chink motorbike (This wiring diagram is to a Pulse Scout 50):

Connect the red and the earth (usually black) the lead going into the CDI should be green. You touch the green to them, you'll either blow the fuse, the CDI or the coil. If it doesn't do that it can set the bike on fire although the chances are slim.

yep well easy the gray dt project that i had before came in with no ignition on it, and the way it worked was when you had the connector there was 2 wires going across the point , so all they have to do is cut the connector and connect the 4 wires together
