Have a bit of a problem, dt is rattling fairly loudly so i thought as the main bearings where recently done id take top end apart and inspect bottom end play (minimal to none present) and i replaced the piston and rings and the small end bearing, i also ground powervalve down just in case even though didn't get a re bore this time round as bore is in perfect condition.
Start it up and the rattle is still there !
iv ran the bike with no powervalve and it still rattled and i also unplugged the servo all together and it still rattled.
does sound nasty that ad get the bottom end done if I was you but check that all your engine mount bolts are nice and tight as the can come lose and the engine starts to vibrate
can you pin point where the sounds coming from ? it may sound like the head but it could be else where and tbh that sounds like the kick start spring thing not in right did it myself on one and it sounded just like that.
the little cogs on the kicker shaft catching or grinding sorry dont use technical terms or names lol
Use a screwdriver put one end in your ear and the other on the casings.also used to have a rd125lc that had clutch rattle.the fingers on the clutch basket had worn causing it to rattle
Agree with MDK as I had a similar noise on an engine I rebuilt once. I also had play in the power valve and if I pressed on the pulley with my finger it would stop most of the rattle.
Piston slap maybe ? have the same sound on my 2000 plate although not as prominent and iv done all the same checks you have done i have even replaced the kicker shaft and the clutch basket and plates, the only logical thing i came to was a worn barrel causing piston slap, because of too much clearance, but it didn't make the sound before the new piston. im still on a 56mm bore so it could really do with a rebore, i hope this is your case cheap easy fix
iv been running it like that for almost 700miles without issue but i know the risks of the piston shattering and exploding in the barrel lool
