General question? Cylinder repairs
Permalink

Right guys I'm looking for a bike cheap which I can make money on I've found a yz125 01 which is running but needs, gear lever, rear fender, chain and sprockets and oh yeah either a new cylinder or a repair of some sort!

so the question is the cylinder has cracked on the bike but the guy has sealed it up and apparently it is holding but I'm just wondering rather than forcing out a ton on a recon cylinder could it be welded? If so has anyone had any experience in having this done?

I'd just whip a new cylinder on. Or avoid the bike, sounds ran down in to the ground tbf

sounds a real nail that you could lose money on un less its dirt cheap .

if I ever view anything that say no gear lever or kick start I take along my own ... they turn white when you pull out your own parts then some times come clean that the engine and gear box is fcked

same if they say needs spark plug or carb clean turn up with carb cleaner and a plug and spanner . others try the good old battery flat so no leccy start again take one along .

best bikes to buy for fast profit are ones with good running engines but poor looks or body work can be cleaned up -touched up-sprayed or fillerd over night and look 90% better for a fast turn around cash wise .

also no always some thing bikers look at but boat outboards are much like bike engines and none runners can be bought cheap and fixed fast for fast sales throu the summer ...

Well the bike does the run and ride he's put a gear lever on it to show it's been ridden, it's just the cracked cylinder which is putting me off, it has been sealed but it all depends how long that would last

To be fair mate you've got to ask yourself why the cylinders been cracked? How much abuse has it taken. And not being funny from the questions you've been asking me, if you didn't like the power of a DT on the road...A YZ on the road. Really. More than twice the power of a dt with 1/4 the weight. You scared yourself on a 15 bhp 125. A 34bhp race bike for the road is a serious machine. Treat it with respect man.

I know mate that's what I've been thinking what has caused it to crack, noo Callum that was for another bike mate I've got no issues being able to handle the power on the road, I've rode big crossers on the road before and not had an issue, the yz is for off-road use

Oh. I was under the impression that you sold your dt cause somebody nearly knocked you off. And that you said you were just going flat out on it everywhere. Which is fair enough. But a DT is so tame you don't need to do that. The YZ however...you just can't help it.

If you want just an off road use bike then maybe it would be worth holding out for something that doesn't require a full engine rebuild lol. Sounds too suspect. I'm not sure how you could accomplish that. Running it no coolant and abslute caining it.

Yeah basically was the reason with the Dt haha I just hurt the thing everywhere I took it, I'd properly do the same if I had a road legal crosser! Haha

Yeah I know that's what I was thinking lack of coolant or jts just been nailed on a straight and heat seized it was going for around £550 would need around £500 to put it right again really

And the rest.

They're nikasil barrels and will need replating.

For the money you're looking at you'd be able to snap up a rough but sound YZ

LOL! At that description. It will blow up your gearbox? Yeah sounds like a goodun. A slipping clutch won't blow up your gearbox. Mainly because things don't just blow up.
