Whatever size piston you can get. And whether thr current liner has room. Nev is running 144cc's i believe on a standard dtr barrel.

But he had a new liner put in.

If you really want to spend money making a DT faster you should, buy one of the older ones with no limiter

I dont want to do it, just my mate wanted to buy a dt 200, he's got the ktm 125sx onroad, but he wants a sumo with a seat like the dt where you sit in the bike, so i wondered how much i could bore mine out to get near the 200 and sell it to him

Yeah no lol.

The best thing you can buy for the dtx is a zeeltronic. Believe me I've done it all. Ported barrels blah blah blah.

Without the zeeltronic the porting work is pointless. I have swapped back to standard ignition so I know. I've had loads of conbinations of tuning setups. The Zeeltronic makes the the most difference and its all in the mid range.

If you want a quick DTR, go for early 1990's. 1996 At the latest or 1997. Note the 1997 has a rev limiter at 10,000 RPM's instead of 12,000 RPM's like the older ones.

Most of them have been abused so don't buy any without knowing what to look out for or bring a friend that knows about them.

Don't blame you in the slightest Danny.

I must admit. Selling my dtre had crossed my mind a lot recently. This past week I've been seriously thinking about it.

If you want a quick dtr then zeeltronic any year. Even the early 90's dtr are not as fast as a zeeltronic dtre.

I've had a look at the casting at a 1993 belgarda 4DL and it has nothing on the casting of my dtre engine. The cast is so much better no rough marks in the crank journals or intake unlike the 1993 casting.

Fancy something bigger. Even with the £££ I've spent on it it's no faster than a standard rs125.

I fancy a DT230 Lanza. Then drop my forks, wheels etc onto it. At least they are like 40 bhp. Would make much more use out of the bits I bought for it.

I'm thinking of Buying a Lanza. Swapping the parts over so my DT looks standard again. They're worth more standard.

Yeah it's pretty flat out now. Plug is golden brown at max throttle/revs. Still too much oil going in at low RPM's and smokes a bit and runs rough at 6K. But past that it absolutely flies (for a DT). The TZR gearbox is lovely. I bought another one to fit back into this new engine I'm building. This new engine is going to be quite special. Another Mick Abbey Job I reckon on a Nikasil barrel. See if I can swap out the Flat top to a domed piston after Mick sorts the head out. Should be a very nice engine.

I reckon it'll be faster than the TZR. The casting is much nice than that of the 4DL engine.

Zeeltronic is still pissing me off. Keeps shutting the powervalve randomly and there is no way to stop it. It doesn't do it all the time. Only sometimes. That's pissing me off. Borut reckons its my wiring however it doesn't do it with the standard ignition.

I'm bored of my DT as well. Thinking of selling up for a EXC but personally I'll never get a straight swap or enough money for a EXC. So I'll probably just wait it out until I'm 19 and nail the tests and jump on a 400.

Don't get me wrong. I love my DT. Fcking love it. Brings smiles to my face whether going slow or fast.

But the way I see it is that the 230 Lanza Standard is 40bhp.

Talking to scrin makes me realise it's identical to my bike (pretty much)

Most of my parts will be a straight swap. So I'll have a bike that looks identical but has twice the power. So what am I still doing with my 125 lmao.

I'll probably keep my DT to be honest. Just because I know that they're worth a bit of money and this baby has seen me through a lot. You also hear all the time people who regret selling them.

The powerband on the bike now is lovely. Lots of mid range punch. But as said it's just that thought in the back of my mind saying just grab the 230. They're cheap enough.

Cal, why not just swap all your RE parts with a Lanza's? Or the opposite way around? Would involve keeping two bikes and saving for one though.

I'm doing it the otherway round. I'd rather have a 230 engine in a 230 bike. It's no biggie. It's just one of those things.

But you're putting the SM wheels and all the other mods from your RE onto it?

What happened to Toy's Lanza in the end? Did Sean sell it in the end?
