Alright guys wondering if u could help me. Bought my dt125r in january and it blew up taking the barrel with it. Anyway i replaced the barrel and piston. Put it all back together with a small hole in my exhaust. She ran fine. Pegged the pv open and it was lovellly. Took my exhaust up a friends and we patched it. Just long enough so i can save for a new exhaust. It ran like a dog. Stuttering and wouldnt go faster than 30. I checked the spark and it was a brown colour. Replaced it and left to go back home when all of a sudden she was fine again. Assuming the fix blew out. Ran fine for a day then all of a sudden she just got really weak. Starts first kick etc. But when going through the gears it just stops and bogs at 8000rpm. Meaning when i change up i have no power to get back up to high revs. Unless im on a slight incline then itll pick up. Any help would be very much appreciated as im regretting buying the bike.

Bogs out in every gear btw so even if i keep my speed up as soon as i get to that rev point it bogs again

Chances are if it 'blew up' (even though things don't blow up) you would have taken out the bottom end as well.

Grab some photos of the exhaust port. THe exhaust has very powerful effects on a two stroke. It could be the 'bodge' on the pipe

Well basically the rings went and part of the space inbetween them came off and went out the exhaust port taking some of the barrel with it! Take the exhaust off and pic up the port yeah?

And i meant blew up as a term not asin my engine literally blew up.

You mean failed. Didn't literally blow up else we wouldn't be having a conversation about why it isn't running.

Yeah i'm just trying to get a picture of what happened. Your question is ambiguous to say the least. Saying it 'blew up' and saying it failed tells me a completely different story.

So sorry if it seems like I'm being a knob, I'm just trying to help. And the first thing I can do is understand what the problem is.

If the engine fails it is likely that it will take out other bits of the engine. If metal goes into the bottom end it can take out bearings and seals. If the seals go then air will seep through the crank. Causing the bike to run poor.

But you would notice this on idle.

If the engine is bogging out at high revs it could suggest other problems.

Runs fine on idle mate. Revs absolutely fine then. Well the rings went and caused damage to the head mainly. I cleaned all the metal out as half went out my exhaust port and half got stuck in the head. Ive got a new top head and new barrel and thats all been done fine. Was literally running sweet then it just bogs out at 8thousand.

Still ambiguous. A new top end is like £600. Do you mean a used top end. Did you have that honed? Or measured.

if the barrel is not within tolerances it will cause issues.

my money would be on the pegged open pv ...I hate pinned pv.s and always say servo is a must to get the best out of this bike

did you do all the correct running in with the new piston and rings .

Sorry come again?

I really think you need to get your terminology sorted?

You honed the barrel yourself? You know that's a specialist job right? Requires specialist tools.

This is going to be a really long day if you can't put across what the problem is.

If this is the case mate then I'd suggest taking it to a local mechanic to take a look at. If you can't communicate the very basics then trying to solve this problem is going to be pointless.

Not trying to be rude but being vague is not helpful. I could give you a million and one ideas but it could be something obvious like you've taken sand paper to the bore and destroyed the barrel. So please collect your thoughts and present them in a structured manner explaining what EXACTLY the problem is. How long has it been like this. What have you done previously to cause this. Videos, Pictures and decent text and we'll do our best to help

But saying you've honed the barrel as specified on this forum is not helpful since If I'd seen a post saying how to hone a barrel I would have deleted it. Most likely cause it would be incorrect.

He bought my top end, i took it off at the base without removing the head. Also gave him the piston with it, so it was ready to go straight on didn't need a hone unless you bought a new piston.

Since it was running fine then this started all of a sudden, my money would be on exhaust or the carb. Could even be a fuel blockage

Edit: after reading again what did you patch the exhaust with? I hope nothing got sucked into the barrel >.<
