Hello, i have DT125R 01 and it has a 170cc Athena kit fitted. It is leaking halfburnt oil from the servo side of the powervalve. It has a rubber ring around the powervalve thing. It doesn't have any seal between the cap and the engine, but according to the scheme, there shouldn't be one.
OK, thank you.
More questions, is a bigger carb worth fitting on my bike? Is the stock carb too small for Athena kit? What's the cheapest and easiest to mount bigger carb for it?
I have stock exhaust. Last owner told me that these expansion pipe restrictors have been removed. Is it worth buying a new end can?
My DT only does 65mph. Reed switch taken out, 3RM-20 CDI.
So it may only do 65 but it might get there like no tomorrow. So my next question is what is the sprocket setup....if it's standard then that's not good :(
I never rated my Athena kit, I read somewhere that the 170 kit was never modeled on the 3mb barrel but on the 3xp0 barrel. If this is correct, this would mean that the port timings are way out on the 170 kit. This I can actually believe, after having a 170 kit myself with many modifications I was not impressed. My TZR setup is faster and more reliable...hopefully. But the theory goes that you need to shave 1 or 2 mm off the top of the barrel and replace that lost material on the bottom. This will effectively raise all the ports together and match the 3MB. This is said to be the best thing you can do to those 170 kits.
Yeah a bigger carb will be a nice upgrade, anything really, so long as it is flat slide and bigger you will notice the difference. A good carb to go for the 170 kit would be Dellorto's VHSB or VHSA carb. I'd recommend the VHSB carb, it's pretty much the same carb but it is slightly bigger than the VHSA. Commonly found on the Aprilia Futura and retrofitted to the Aprilia RS125. The VHSA carb is found on the TZR R's and can be had pretty cheap. I'm sure there are lots others but you don't want to go too big. I won't go into the details but sometimes smaller can be better (increase in crank pressure).
I've had many, many, different setups of DTR. From stock to athena, to Stock, dep, and zeel, to the full blown tzr setup, and I'll tell you now, in my experience, the best thing money can buy for that extra power has got to be the Zeeltronic ignition unit. At £170 that ignition unit will see you more gains than any other component alone. Well worth the money.
In terms of exhaust systems, stock is good, but an aftermarket will see gains. I had a derestricted stock can and it was good, but the powerband was better on the DEP system. I wouldn't go DEP again though, cheap nasty metals. THere is a guy on this forum who'll make hand made Stainless Steel exhaust systems.

Poor fueling, incorrect gearing, bike is still restricted. But you would have thought the 170 kit would be somewhat faster, but you're always going to be limited by the final drive. I bet you could go up a few teeth on the front and you'd be a lot happier and it would still get there pretty quick.
The Zeeltronic...depends, if you want a OFF THE HEAD map then yeah you'll need a Dyno. But you can fine tune it yourself and even with just a few degrees you will notice the difference. If you aren't interested in off the head power then go with the basics. But if you want to see big gains, but don't want to spend money on porting....go with the Zeel. It won't give you much in the red line (unless you tune it to) but the mid range increase is mint. When I had it on my stock engine, the front wheel was well happy to come up, much more so than stock. Can't say I get the same with the TZR setup but still nice mid range.
The carb, well not really, I modified the existing inlet manifold to take the bigger carb, and then used an air filter, but you can fit the standard boot over the top, it's just hard work.
Carb and ignition system, with a proper exhaust system and you'll be laughing. And if you really want to utilise that 170 kit, get it ported properly by a professional. The port timings are just way out.
That's the carb, I reckon the Athena would run much better with that on there buddy. You can pick them up cheaper. I sold one on here for £40 but can pick them up around £60 if you hang on. But that is UK prices. They're also commonly used on Lambrettas so type that in and see what you get.
Is nr 1 carb heater which connects to the pipe coming from left side of the engine? and 2nd from right side?
Nr 3, 4 and 5 should be breather/overflow?
Nr 6 should be choke? Do i need to buy that push choke thing?
Nr 7 fuel?
I don't know what 8 is.
And 9 is mixture screw?`
On the third picture is the idle adjust, am i correct? It is missing the mechanism, but i can just it with a screwdriver?
Okey. I got it on. 2 days of hard work :D
So basically no power increase, but it doesn't get enough air and probably needs rejetting.
It has stock airbox atm. What airfilter should i get for offroading? I think that pod filter will cause problems in dirty places.
What jetting do you have? I have 148 main jet, 38 idle jet, 60 choke(?) jet.
This is where you can't really ask me mate. I've got ported engine, after market ignition and custom pipes :/ But sounds like you've got a TZR setup and you're not on a TZR. The 4DL would probably have had a slightly more aggressive ignition map so it's probably running a little rich. Lessening it off and then having another look at the plug would be where I'd start.
