A couple of pics to prove I'm not quite static. I don't think I will get powder coating done again. it's too thick in places and chips easier than I expected in others. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Smoothrite has a lot going for it. Yam + Bruges 003.jpgYam + Bruges 029.jpg

Yeah powder coat shmowder coat cant see why people rave about, all I can think is that its easy to drop a rough frame off and get it back looking nice. Mind you nothing in an aerosol is anywhere near as good. 2K paint is by far the best and most durable finish for the money if you can paint.....

Well I just had to try it once, powder coat that is. I was warned but...you know how it is. As for the pink bits, well you never know it might happen later. For now it's a rush to get it on the road as I want a quiet bike to go to work at 04.30hrs. And play in the snow hopefully! The pink bits are sort of growing on me (ooer missus-sounds a bit rude) I only ever had one other bike professionally done and that was 2 pack and a great job it was too. If I ever do this again (course I will) 2 pack it will be, or Smoothrite for budget jobs!

Genuine Yamaha seat cover say 93 but should say 91 bargain, over a hundred quid from your friendly local Yamaha dealer. Get it snapped up........

2 pack its all I ever use, 30 quid a litre with the thinner and hardener and I could paint 5 frames with 1 litre....................

Ive got some brand new Pink fork gaiters that I might let go if you do decide to go Pink and you cant find any, they are totally impossible to find these days ive had them years. Heres a pic, I always save a pic from the seller when I buy something and put it into a model year file.

Thanks for your offer Scrims, I have put a watch on the seat cover and may risk a bid later. Just in case I do get lucky, how much would you want for the gaiters please?
I do like the idea of the standard colours now, but the budget will be the final decider!

Thanks Lobber, glad you think it looks ok-it does make a suprising difference as you say, the frame seems to hide all the other stuff that is going back with just a brush-up. Did a bit more today and hope to post more pics when it's standing on its own two wheels. Still got to shell out for stuff like a chain (want O-ring) brake pads and sundry bits and bobs. It still surprises me how much bits and bobs cost!

Well, I won the seat cover so we are part way there. Wonder where I can find a pair of pink gaiters at a knockdown, clearance, old stock, flood damaged price???

Maybe that explains why mine is stated first registered in 1998 in the Manx log book? I did wonder if it had been stood in a UK dealer then shipped to the island when an order came in. Don't make too much of the originality please-I'll start getting scared to ride it!

More than likely just declared new when first registered in IOM, easily done just a case of filling in a form. I registered a 99 declared new in 08 and got an 08 registration plate. But who knows, if you put your frame and engine number down in writing and send a letter off to Yamaha UK customer services explaining your enquiry they will give you the original UK registration number for the bike if it was registered through an official UK dealer.

Well I can't fault DVLA, did the forms a well as I could, posted them off on the 22nd December, then in this mornings post I got the new V5C and reg number! I did wish them a happy Christmas like the creep I am, but fair do's and all that, not bad service eh? So as the docs arrived in time for me to visit Newark jumble today I got the new plate made up and road tested it with the new powervalve servo fitted as well-Spot on! just what I need for my winter commuter/trail bike kick. Thanks too for all the help and encouragement from you lot, it made a easy project even more plain sailing and fun!

I do need to sell that Suzuki above though, got an offer from a geezer on the Isle of Wight (£1500) who's being unrealistic, me or him? What do you lot think?

hard call with the suzuki   not the best looking of bikes and I have seen a like new red one  go for around that price on the net .

fact is its a 250cc and they are hard sellers no good for prov licence holders  and to slow for for full licence holders so is only for the real collectors  out there ...

Update; The DT has been giving good service since it went back on the road. No that's wrong-been giving GREAT service and a lot of fun thrown in. So all is fine and dandy in my world. Or is it? I have only gone and bought an Aprilia RSV Mille now...I couldn't help myself, it was all there, cheap and in need of tlc and just whimpered 'please buy me'. So I did.
What I can see happening next is me putting the DT up for sale. Anyone here want first dibs? £1800 all on the road with UK reg etc and a genuine PINK! seat cover included but not yet fitted?
OK I might NOT sell it but it may help to make sense of my stupid world and fund the other projects, so you would be doing the world a great service. What's not to like?

Did you paint the clutch case/flywheel cover? Really lets the bike down on the above photo.

No I didn't-yet. I was planning to whip the cover off soon and do it, but you know how it is? More projects appear, existing projects get deeper and then the sun comes out and you want to just go for a ride. You're right though it does spoil it!

Well, sorry for killing this part of the forum stone dead. Maybe I really am the BoF my son says now? Ahh well, just this weekends trail riding to look forward too then the bike goes up for sale. I might get round to painting the clutch cover if time permits, but it will at least get a wash and brush up. It has been fun, and a sensible person would kep this bike. Trouble is, I have my eyes on funding the other projects that need a good shove or I won't finish them before I peg it.

Thanks for that link Scrims, I shan't go after them though. I'm taking the DT to Stafford this weekend to see if it sells, along with the Suzuki T10. Space needed and a little cash wouldn't go amiss to help the projects along!

Silly not to, the bike will look a lot nice with the fitted or not. They are a good selling point. Ah Stafford show the home of overpriced crap lol............... Not that yours are mind you the DT is lovely should sell no problem at all.

Thanks Scrim. I see yours is up to £1700 odd tonight, if there is a last minute rush that will be interesting! Take your point about the gaiters but wouldn't have been able to get them in time and the pink seat cover is still not fitted either, so it looks sort of ok as it is. I repainted the clutch cover and exhaust (again) today. Turned out ok for a seller etc. If I sell either of the bikes the other may get a reprieve! If I sell both it's party time. If any of you are going to Stafford you'll see the bikes on my nephews jumble stall-come out of the tunnel and head straight down the outer row, we are on the left about halfway down-come and pick holes in 'em and create a crowd round them for me! As for overpriced-that's why I'm taking them there!
