I've finaly ditched the DTR wheels and fitted some proper TDR wheels and forks Bike now looks a hell of alot different which is good....the down side is she's very twitchy in corners. This is because the forks are about 3 inches shorter, theres a smaller front wheel and the rear has been jacked a little which all increase decrease the head angle. The front wheels tends to dig in a little.
My bright idea is to swap over the stanchions with the DTR and keep the TDR lower legs. External diameters are the same but i'm not sure about the internal workings and i havnt taken any measurements yet. Has anyone else done anything similar?
Im going to run with it for the time being and she how she rides. If i cant swap the stanchions I may look in to milling a caliper bracket for the DTR forks
Not tried it myself m8 but i am looking into diff forks as i want twin disc ans usd forks lol but findin it hard findin any that might fit the dt fork stanchios shouls be similar so i see no problem swapping them m8
I hear that Cagiva Mito USD forks may fit but the steerer tube need to be pressed out and replaced with a TDR one. It you didnt want twin disc you could fit YZ/WR forks
I was looking in to the WR/YZ option last year but it would mean a new wheel, speedo drive, brake setup etc etc and at the time couldnt be bothered. Might look in to it again once i get this current setup sorted.
Seems the lower fork legs are the same length so the DTR stanchions are longer so from the looks of things it could be a straight swap Ill just have to fight getting the buggers apart.....i hear the lower fork bolt is a sod to undo!
yeah pain in the arse m8 you have an alan key bolt through the bottom but you also have to stop the whole thing spinning from the inside i can tell you this the amount of swearing and tools that were flying out my garage when i dont these was unreal id rather do usd forks than these there easyer......
Managed to wedge the internals with a broom handle. So now the DTR forks are in bit but i dont have a 12mm allen key for the TDR forks so i'll be out playing again tomorrow.
Had a bit of a revelation tonight...the DTR forks are only 1.5 inches longer than the TDR forks. Is it really worth the effort
If it solves the problem of twitchy steering then yes m8 do it m8 it will be worth it in the end you'll see same as all my mods m8 we do them cause we want to ......lol
Jas
ps good luck with the forks i used a tyre lever on mine lol
