Have just bought a 1998 DT125R and have noticed a slight (?) problem with it. I was hoping one of you more knowledgeable folk could help.
When I start the bike, the oil warning light comes on and stays on, when the bike is in neutral. As soon as I select a gear, the oil warning lamp goes out (as does the neutral light). There is plenty of oil in the tank. I was wondering if it might be an electrical problem in the clock unit maybe, as the oil warning lamp seems to come on and off with the neutral lamp? Or is this supposed to happen and the bike is trying to tell me something? I don't have an owners manual, and the Haynes manual says nothing about it.
nothing wrong with the clocks, its most likely wired up incorrect remove your headlight and check all the wires are correct (reffer to manual) or it could be a faulty oil level indicator? (if you look on the top of your oil bottle there are wires coming out of it, follow the wires back and unplug them and see if it still does the same, if it does your oil level indicator is fine if not then you have found your problem ;) )
hello mate it is not a problem it is supposed to come on when bike is in neutral as it is to let you know the oil light works mine is the same and so is my mates i thought the same thing untill he told me i hope you find this reassuring cheers baz at leeds
i respect you are a respected member please refer to haynes manual chapter 7 electrical system (pg 135) sect 12 paragraph 2 clearly states the oil warning light stays on whilst in neutral as a check to make sure the system is working every dt i have never had has been the same and my mates have too i know im right and my information is researched thanks baz at leeds
i dont doubt your for a second, its right i forget mine has a different electrical/loom and cdi setup so it was my mistake ;) My setup is currently as follows. - KTM LC2 Delorto Carb and inlet manifold (Much much bigger) - KTM LC2 Electronics (cdi), including engine electronics and flywheel - Stage 3 street, stan stephens tune on the topend of the engine, barrel, head all ported and gas flowed etc.. powervavle has been modified fitted with a wiseco piston (£155 for the top end tune including the piston etc.. but it was worth it!) - Iridium spark plug - Electric start conversion (standard as kick start) and i am now running a digital speedo (no oil light just a reading)
