Engine won't start with electric start.

Hi, problems again! My TDR won't start with the starter, it bumps ok. The starter is working properly (turning the engine over) but it wont start, the thing is when the engine has been started by bumping the starter motor will actually work, I even tryed it about 10 times the other day and it started every time!!

I have noticed just recently the engine seems to have lost a little power, could this mean I need to do a top end rebuild?
My thinking is maybe a loss of compression (from worn rings/piston) could be causing my problems.

23000 miles on the clock but before my problems the engine was running sweet, I have no idea when it last had a new piston, a few weeks ago I did speak to a guy at college motorcycles stockport, and he told me the engine sounds good and not to touch it until i have trouble.

Any ideas greatly received, Pete

I've got the very same issue, however if you wind the tick over right back, hit the start button and you should here her fire but not start. Increase the tick over a quater of a turn and hit start again. Repeat the process gradaully increasing the tick over till she starts on the choke. Then set the tickover to about 1200 rpm.

I've not fathomed it out yet. Could be a duff battery, could be a blocked air filter. She's never let me down yet and carried though the winter so i've not really bothered to trace the problem.

I got a new battery 3 months ago so I dont think it will be that, New air filter too! When it starts its very good and hasn't let me down either.
I have however fitted an different coil and HT lead today, I left it for a couple of hours and tryed it again and it started with the starter!!!! I think the next week will tell me if this has solved the problem.... I'll let you know : )

good compression for tdr/tzr/dtr engine is above 110 if its getting below a 100 and its time to change the rings....

i would say change the rings m8 its a quick and easy job and will save you a lot of time and money in the long run and can only do good.......

EPW go to halfords and buy a compresion tester(19.99 ish) and try that, this should tell you if its the rings on the way out....

yeah my tzr was low as well lol all it means is that sometime in the next couple of months you should get the rings changed but that said you could go years on those with no probs lol.
it all depends on how hard you push the engine.........
