hi i have been looking for the cause of my spedo falieur. and it turned out to be the drive unit on the wheel. does anyone know where i can get a new  unit. ( the manual says that it is sealed so cant repair. for a 97 bike. thanks john01crycrycry

in answer to craiggaler, no idont have te bush and i am probably not going to buy one. i will sent pic tomoro, r0bsk1 but i know it is something in that little drive box.

Contrary to what the manual say the speedo drive unit can be taken apart and serviced. There is a single circlip holding it all together.

Mine failed a while ago do to the fingers that interface with the wheels somehow bent (might have been when i took the wheel out). Also the metal plate that connects the wheel tothe drive cog seems very week and can be misshaped very easily. It appears to be a circle with flattened sides. If this happens it can be flattened out using a hammer/vice.

I've also heard of the main cog wearing so it cant mate up with the worm gear that drive the cable. A spacer can be put behind the drive cog to mate it up to the worm gear.

Sounds complicated i know but it'll be clearer if you manage to take yours apart.

i took it to pieces and could not see any bad ware, i fitted it back and spun the wheel foward,nothing happened. i then spun the wheel backwards and the cable turned, i can not fegure out what the hek is going on smile.gif.

dont know to much about them but i do know they sell some good electric speedows on the net i  think they look better than the dtr ones
