Hello, I just bought a complete servo kit for my 1990DTR, Installed it with no problems (part from the fact the instructions on here do not tell you that you need to remove the exhaust as I found out half way through) When I turn the key at start up you can see the pully doing its job, eg moves backwards and forwards, but thats it, It does not move at all when you rev the engine, so I have no power at all below 6k (when it gets above that the bike flys and so does the front wheel) Does anyone have any ideas as to why the servo does not seem to be working properly, I have a few things I think it could be:
* I have wired it up wrong some how, does the valve need to be in the closed position when the pullys are put on or does it not matter? * The servo is broke * Or there is something wrong with the CDI or something that has something to do witrh the rev counter
Anything that anyone can think of please let me know and I will give it a go before I take it to a yamaha dealer
Think I have worked out what the problem is, my friend did not read the instructions properly! For one thing he did not connect the bullet type wire, and secondly it looks like he put the wires the wrong way around. Going to have some dinner, and head over to his later to get it sorted, thanks fot the reply I will keep you updated
Ok, Just got back from crossing the cables over on it and attaching that bullet type wire, the pully is moving at start up like it should, but it does not move on the revs until its at over 6k, and even then it hardly moves. So I am still left with no power at all below 6 thousand, I cant work this out. Any ideas anyone?
Hello sorry for the late reply, I have been busy with work. I just got some information from the person I bought it off, who suggested I try and wire it without the cables crossing, now it is even slower. Whereas before it had no power below 6k, and once it got above that it would really kick and pull you back. Now it does not rev past 8k and theres now power at all. I am at a loss with this one, the bike seems to get slower and slower with everything I try. Iwill try and get a video of it in action but it probably wont be until next weekend now as there is not enough daylight once I get back from work. Anyone got any ideas?
Actually while I am here, Just a few more questions for people who have servos on their pre 97 powervalve. When you fitted it did you have the powervalve in the open or closed position? Have you crossed the wires over? At what rev range does the powervalve start moving? And does it move clockwise or anticlockwise?
set it up with the locking pin through the pulley and the hole in the pulley housing, then when you start the engine the valve should turn clock wise and close the valve givin you low down power , the when you rev it the valve should turn anti clockwise to open valve . the valve will open progressively as engine speed increases
I've said it before, but my powervalve is setup the oppsite of that and it is also a 1990, my cables do cross. It turns clockwise to open the valve and anti-clockwise to shut it (when viewed from the left of the bike)
If u look at the fitting instructions on this website, that is how mine is setup.
aperxer0 are you sure your engine is not from a newer bike?
This is my powervalve viewed from the right side of the bike, you can see that is in the open position and can only turn one way from there to close, which would be anti-clockwise when viewed from the other side of the bike.
Thanks for all the info, I have decided to remove it as it was just not worth having it on there, although I did like the sound it made when it was doing its checks
