How to de-restrict 2006 DT125-SM

Howdy guys :)

Newbie here, glad to see a forum for the awesome Yamaha DT125-R.

I used to have a 1990 one years go and man it was fast and had a great kick to the power band :D

Right this is a question for me mate really, hes got a 2006 DT125-SM.

I had a go on it yesterday and I was very excited and thinking back of the memories of my DT and how it was, but I have to say his 06 DT SM doesnt feel half as fast as what my 1990 one did :(

I remember back in the day there was talk of turning the powervalve round to give you full power but mine had been done.

Can someone therefore tell me please what I need to do to me mates 06 bike to at least make it as quick as mine from years ago, cos my old one which was only 12bhp would have smoked this.

MANY thanks in advance guys.

Matt :)

P.S. It's got a full DEP Sports exhaust on and no other mods from new.

Howdy guys

Right today we de-restricted my mates DT125X SM by cutting the green/brown wire and by adding more wire we rigged it up to the negative terminal of the battery.

Also we took off the airbox snorkel completley.

The result ? sounded deeper when the bike started, pulling off it wants to bog down, defo sounds better but might put the snorkel back on at least until he can get a K&N air filter in there.

We took the bike to a LONG duel carridgeway to see what we could get top speed... and the most we could get outta it ...

78mph ...

Now my old DT125R went off the clock at 85mph so how come this one is only gettin 78mph ?

Is there anything else we can do to it guys to make it quicker and a better top end ? or are these the only two mods available for his 06 model.

Oh its got a DEP sport exhaust on it too.

Many thanks.

Matt

is the expansion chamber dep also?
DTX's speedos are quite innacurate compared to the older style dt speedo's from my experience.
My friends dtx goes almost off the clock (goes to 80) and he is on standard pipes,no snorkel, wires cut.
However his 80mph is my 70mph on my 2000 dtr and i still overtake him topping out at 75 on a straight without a bad head-wind.
My dt is running with dep silencer, half restricted front pipe (i pulled one of the washers out somehow!),snorkel removed, reed switch done, and i left that air bottle attatchment comming off the airbox on it made no difference.

That dtx should be able to go off the clock with all that done to it, you might want to try my guide on disabling the powervalve to get some extra top end.

Hiya Darkangel.

Forgive me for not having the best vocabulary at the moment as I am still learning.

Can you explain what you mean by is the expansion chamber dep also ? as I dont know what the expansion chamber is, it is a full dep system if that helps ?

When following in the car the 06 DT the cars speedo is spot on accurate with the DT's at just shy of 80mph and it wont go any more.

As I've said at the moment we just have the ignition wire now connected to the negative terminal of the battery and snorkel removed, although this is going back on as the bike bogs down and tries to stall when pulling off.

So apart from the wire and full dep system what else can we do ?

With it being 06 model does the powervalve still need turning round ? and any further info on main jets and where to obtain them.

Cheers.

Matt

it stalling when setting off sounds like it needs rejetting.
If the bike is doing a real 80mph i dont think you will be able to get it any faster unless you get the cylinder and head race tuned
