upon looking at the how to guides i was wondering if the power valve needs turning on the 2001 model or if it is already in the correct position and that the only restrictors are the ones mentioned. Just want to make sure before i start playing....
the powervalve is ment to be allready in the correct position then theres just the exhaust restriction and that black bottle on the side tape the hole and push it back in i'm not sure about cutting that rubber thing that the carb is connected to as i read that someone did that he lost top end power... all ive did to mine is took the exhaust restriction out and taped the hole in the bottle after i took the exhaust restriction out it made it much faster and it revs straight to 1000
that bottle thing you are on about, is that the little black thing thats connected to that inlet or outlet on the left hand side? Cos i found when that was connected up it ran like a bag of wank. It is now just left off with a hole. Do i need to tape over the hole or can i just leave it open? What sort of top end are you getting? im getting around 70-75 on a level (no wind facing) with 15 stone sat on the fkr
the side bottle is held onto the frame by a screw thats the one i mean dont leave it off as it will suck in air at that hole so its not going through the air filter that wont do your engine any good... not sure the top end of my bike as ive only been using it offroading so top speed ive had mine to is 50-55 and its gets there quickly!!
well i taped up that bottle and it blew it out, so i taped up the hole and i felt a loss of power. Now i have taken the tape off the hole (left it open) and it flies. 77mph with me sat upright 15.5 stone of me. only done the reed switch and bottle hole so far. Exhaust getting cut up next so i will see what happens then
leave that hole open to suck unfiltered air into the engine and your bike wont last long. Water, sand, dirt e.c.t Costly damage, expect a full engine rebuild
If you feel up to making some mods, stick a K&N Filter in there for more airflow which it seems your bike wants, or maybe poke a hole in the air-box cover. You have a derestricted exhaust system allready right? Front pipe and tailpipe.
Power value will need turning dude and the whole chopping up the reed inlet manifold bit and losing top end isn't strictly true in my case, I too have an 01...so far have removed, taped up and replaced left hand side air bottle, turned powervalue and fine tuned the servo/pulley to the best performace I can get (best done after a fast ride to get the engine warm) reshaped the reed inlet manifold, added Boyeson power reeds and have blown one restrictor out of my exhaust just due to some fast riding (don't read as wreckless driving...)
The bike tops out at 10k in 6th doing 80mph, is pretty rapid off the line but compared to friend's Husky's and the like mine doesn't stick to the road off the line aswell (front end can easily come up :( ) and is generally a great bike performance and reliability wise. Now concentrating on cosmetics and handling i.e 4.25 17" rear rim + 3.50 17" front and seat shaping along with other aftermarket products as they can be lovely bikes with the right kit...if all goes well I'l be sticking a 170/180cc kit on next year some time to save money on buying a bigger bike (Dt's sound for over here on our little mainly twisty and hilly Island roads)
