had my bike for 5 months now, all has been good

i had an irridum spark plug in it and it was all ok, but one night about 11pm my bike wouldnt start, we bumed it tho and it was fine, next day it started 1st kick and all was fine , then that next night it happed again about 11pm, and i couldnt bump it, and had a night mare for half an hour then it randomly started

i checked the plug and it was slightly oilly but not much

i put the old original one in,and the bikes been fine for a few weeks since, i put a big one system on it and its been fine

then a couple of nights ago i was round a mates, and left at about 11 again (all 3 times late at night ?) and it just wouldnt kick over or bump, we tried and tried

so i called the rac out, as i thought i just aswell get my moneys worth, the bloke came out, checked a load of things, and thought it might be a faulty engine switch , as sometimes it was sparking ,then not for ages, then weak etc,

eventualy he said it might be the ignition amplifier, got towed home

next day it started 1st kick, sparking well, and been fine ever since ... !

any ideas on what it could be ????

, im not loaded at the moment so id like to avoid taking it somewhere to pay to get the bike checked over

thanks folks !

id check stuff like your kill switch mate, had somthin similar with my old rs, had the thing in bits then my older bro just put some wd40 on it and problem sorted, apart from that it could be ht leads crack in it or its comin loose.......not too familiar with kick start bikes all 6 ive owned have all been electric start, maybe the problem is in the kick start.
id go for the electrical side first tho mate, sounds like water has got in somwere

maybe the coil or HT lead mate. Mine used ot be a bit temprimental with plugs and spark etc and didn't like water. I changed the coil (got it from ebay for about £10) and it rruns like a dream and hasn't messed a plug since (fingers crossed).
If it is electrical this could be a good place ot start.
Also side stand, it won't kick over if its in gear when this is down....have heard about this being faulty and thinking its in gear when its not, just an idea.

Thanks

Try and disconnect the sidestand switch and loop out the connector under the seat. Mine gave an intermittant fault so I looped it out and threw the switch away. Works fine now.

unplug the stand switch from under the seat, get a piece of wire and connect both terminals in the plug on the wiring loom side this is looping out the switch.
