hi all

ive been looking at getting a dep exhaust for my 56 plate 125 x but havnt got the money at the mo so took my standard one off and cut it open and pulled what i think is a cat out (not the feline kind lol) and welded it back up.i just wondered if any one knew if it would be as good as fitting a dep pipe.i still have the standard silencer on it.the bike is faster now

thanks

The general consensus is the stock expansion chamber removed of restriction is the best overall bet.

B2R - if you've never used welding equipment before, then don't even contemplate it. By all means cut it open and remove the restriction, but take it to a local blacksmith or similar (Yellow Pages) and get him to weld it up for a tenner.

stock pipe with catalyst blocked and internal restrictions removed is the same as a DEP only doesnt look as good but its not gonna dent the moment it comes into contact with anything.. Im sure the make DEPS from tin cans...

The CAT in your pipes not really a restriction .... no real gain from removing it ...
The grounding out of the wire is king on X & RE's ... It's where the money is !

But ..

Most of us remove em anyway ... might gain an extra half hoss ??

I'm all for an extra Half Hoss' m8 ... biggrin ... Or full one if one's going spare  !

& fookin horses are cool off road transportation ...
Rocky Climb .. Leg slips out ? No Problem .. Got another 3 m8 !

The photos are ones i have lifted from other posts in the past, i have never actually opened up a DT Xpanny & done this me'sen .. The gutted xpanny i'm running at the mo' was gifted to me by the starter of this thread waaay back when .. It's the standard xpanny off an  'X' Model ..
Pea, lives out near coast evileye [lucky ba$tard !] .. [Cheers Pea, you still about ??]

Some of the boys have gone for removal, only to find when pipe opened up, that the CAT was all breaking up anyway & not the sort of place you want loadsa detritus hanging about, near your powervalve ! disbelief ! Doubt it would make it's way back into the motor, but not impossible ?? !! blankstare
