Kinda figured out what i want now . Renthal 7/8 med-rise red bars with crossbar and pad . CR bend or whatever .

My levers and all the casings for the handlebar parts are at the coaters . But I've changed my mind on a few of these bits ...

The master cylinder i have for my DT is pretty much scrap now after I've mucked with it so I'm getting a DTX one . It's half the price and has the Brembo lever etc

The stop switch is a bit different but can easily be modified , or can vice versa fit them .

The throttle casings are coated too . Taken the engine stop button out to clean up etc .

The L/H electrics I've taken apart , casings are plastic so cant coat , just have to paint them .

Clutch lever  and bracket is coated too but was looking at the Renthal universal one . Looks cool but the £99 price tag put me off . If anyone can suggest a cooler looking clutch lever setup please do .

Id like to update the electrics too on the L/H but not sure how tricky it'll be the wiring side of things . Just a newer button setup really , something on the DTRE or X .

Then new clutch and throttle cables .

On to the headlight I'm not sure what to do , i like the Acerbis one but do you get the light and surround ? Are they any good ? OEM looks a bit naff with the smaller front end .

Tyres , I'm loving the sport demon ones with the white writing . Removed my tyres before looking at the sizes so don't know what they are . I know they're 17's but that's about it .

Ive started thinking more along the engine side of things now . Spoke to the mechanic at Yamaha and he suggested putting in a YZ engine . Then another garage said that's too much work and I'm better off sorting mine out as best it can .

Still want to send it off to a specialist but yet to find one . Cant find a contact number for anyone .

Ive got pics of the bits coated and stripped but forgot my camera cable ... next time .

Top man !!!

Right the past week I've been gathering more bits and getting ready to bolt it all up . Top yokes are attached and race bearing will adjust properly when the front ends on . Waiting for all the hose clips etc which are on order and will sort by weekend .

Ive stripped all the handlebar electrics and got my bits back from the coaters . Painted a few of my other bits and soon as the bars turn up ill start fitting .

I'm sure I've ordered the wrong bars , think i said trail or trial wrong lol . we'll see .

Pics

Electrics all stripped

All bits to paint , half getting coated the other plastic bits i do myself

Master cylinder i wrecked lol . No worries getting the DTX one , just hope the switch can be changed over without much hassle

Did the airbox again cause I forgot lacquer last time lol

Had to remember these bits are gonna be white

New bolts :)

Other bits I painted

And the bits back from powdercoating

Yokes on and cleaned the insides so now the shocks slip on/off easy peasy

Colour coded airbox cover

New bolts instead of screws for airbox . Took 5 months to remove the old ones lol

So after all that work , I go to bolt in the very first bolt into the frame . Ready to go , rectifier was first to be in .....

A few twists later and guess what happens

Lmao

Drilled it out and the threads fine , 31 holes on the bike and i find the 2 that bottom out , then i use the wrong size bolt lol

Anyways bars should come tomorrow and will get cracking on piecing it together . Got another order of crap from Yamaha arriving soon too .

fookin ell m8 lookin sweet

get your self a tap set to tap out all the holes b4 you put bolts in em its the powdercoat and debris from the blasting in the holes which is snapping the bolts

the guy who told you to fit a yz engine should be strung up m8 never ever fit a mx engine in a road bike they are so tempremental and a general pain in the ass the only difference between the dt engine and the yz is the gearing, the yz will out accelerate a dtr but it aint any quicker fitting one of them engines would be a total waste of time buddy ;)

keep up the good work

Unless it was a WR250 engine, two stroke and with wide ratio (WR) gearing = higher top speed. Worth considering....

ive heard of guys fitting 500 mx engines in 125 road bikes but its just daft, i mean when was the last time you seen an mx bike go flat out theres a reson for this and its cos it wouldent last 5 mins

im sure weve all seen mx on the telly they use short fast bursts of power with sprockets the size of bin lids they just aint designed for everyday road use plus they cost a fortune to fix mx bikes have buckets of torque whilst road bikes are the opposite and perform better higher up the rev scale the dt is classed as an enduro so is is kinda in between which is why there good for road and light off road use

maybe on a full off road dtr an mx engine would be ok but if an engine change is a must go for something out of a road bike ive heard the rd engines can be made to fit biggrin

cheers guys

Update !!

Been veeeeerrrryyyy busy , lots of pics and uploading took forever so less talk from me , this is what I've done in the past 2 days .

Bars , grips and donuts turned up

Got these bits on , still need a master cylinder and L/H electrics ( don't like the finish on the set I painted

Oh yeah some other bits turned up

Tried mock fit with wheels but failed lol

Anyways got grease and copper thingy and got ready to start assembling

Then it was time .... 5 months and I'd avoided the engine long enough . Not seen it in months and had to get going on it .

Sorted

Obviously had to mock fit it . Bit of a mission as i had no help and was trying not to damage the frame .

Anyways that was end of day 1 . Day 2 has been just as busy .

Started fitting the clocks and everything else to the frame that's ready to go on

Then outside for sexy shots

purple pins lol
( added a few washers to make it a tighter fit )

Then got started on the wiring loom , cleaned it up

Then mock fit of headlights ( not keeping the OEM one , really want the Acerbis Enduro ) and loom . Cant go much further frame wise as i need a fair few bits .

Then some mocks with seat and tank

That was about it until i started looking at the brakes

Stripped them and painting them tonight

That's all folks , crap loads left to do ....

cheers guys , not idea about the Renthals i just know i ordered trial mid rise . I'll look at the order form when i get in and reply with that info later

The grips are the tapered set mate , bit **** though as theyre dirty already lol

Finished off my harness placing and a few other bits , cant be arsed to type too much this time so will just post pics ..

First off i saw these handguards which i might be able to get a deal on , we'll see though .

Also what do you think about this pole as security ? As in if i just get a chain , will it be as secure as chaining it to the ground ? It's free to use that pole and it costs to get a ground anchor ... not sure .

Finished whats hopefully my last round of painting

Then got bits on like airbox and engine

Yamaha's wiring was a bit nuts so tried to shift bits around

mock fit cylinder with stupid bolts

DTX speedo cable

So tanks off to powdercoat on Tuesday hopefully and a few bits left to pick up from Yamaha .

Had a touch with an airbox , needed a new filter , filter housing and all brackets , and a mudflap . All that's about £60 at Yamaha but got an old box for £10 with all bits attached :)

Still crap loads to do and money i dont have to spend .

What finishing touches have you got planned for the motor?
Chrome kickstart?
Polished clutch casing and powervalve caps?
Braided water hoses with anodised fittings?
A nice dressed up bling engine will look very pretty sat in that frame

Cracking progress as ever mate. Its gonna be the one of the smartest dtr's i've seen

Anything else bling on the engine has to wait till after its done mate , as you can see its costing waaaaaayyy too much already and ive never even been on it lol . All in good time

Ok seat pics

First off got the right size bolts for handlebar crap

Then started chopping seat with a pair of scissors

Got rid of the squarish look

Then smoothed it down with sandpaper ( all i had )

Tanks not done yet so no pics of that .

Cheers for all the kind words guys

Fukin luvly mate! I wish I had the money for a SM set up the DTR. I just bought some Avon road tyres myself for the DT so hopefully they have more grip on the road than the enduro tyres I have on it this now.
