I recently finished the engine rebuilt of my tdr. Here are some videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-pXkXsMuNY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePX8RYOlQq4&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNojgPXNvQU What do you think?Does it sounds right?
Although when your starting a bike with the choke, don't give it throttle, everytime you twist the throttle you effectively stopping the choke from doing its job.
I never had a bike like this before and i don t know how it should sound. You see when i took it the piston was damaged and the bike was abandoned for more than a year. The sound on my videos isn't very good.Looking on the web i found a dt that sounds just like mine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3crnLbFMKPo. If you hear carefully except the exshaust there is and another sound from the engine on the low rpm.Is this how all dts sounds?
your bike sounds like mine m8 does it sound like a weird tapping noise from the head ?
i thought it was coming from my crank bearings but i started mine again the other day and it sounds like its coming from the head
i stripped the top half down again and replaced the small end bearing which helped a little but im wondering if this is just how they sound?
im currently doing a full rebuild on a second engine because i thought mine was fooked but now im not so sure ?????
A friend who had a tzr 250 in the past told that his bike sound like that when he had connected the ypvs cables wrongs. In my bike i have changed the piston, small &vbig ending bearings and the crankshaft bearings and it makes that sound from the first day i got it started.Since then i have done 300 km and i don't pass 4.500 rpm.Untill now i have no proble. Hope thats how all dt sounds.
ive owned a couple of dtr's in the past and also tzr's but i cant for the life of me remember what they sounded like because since then ive owned quite a few 4 strokes
gav told me a couple of weeks ago that they are a bit rattly in general so it could possibly be the wear and tear of in my case an 18 year old engine
im still going to rebuild my spare motor but for now im probably just gonna ride mine as it is untill its done
It does sound a bit rattly but not excessive I take it you have had it rebored? When the cylinders are rebored they are sometimes bored slightly too large to give a 'slack' fit so the engineer who rebored it doesn't get the blame for an engine seizure if its not run in correctly. When this happens the noise you are hearing is piston slap.As i said it don't sound excessive so it should be ok

The cylinder has been rebored to 57mm.I spoke with a mechanic and he told me the same thing. Another issue that concerns me is the oil. Will the oil pump supply enough oil for the new dimensions of the piston?
Yes, i have run an LC125 with 175 big bore on its standard pump. The pump will deliver plenty of oil.Just make sure the marks line up and it is set correctly
