i have recently bought a Yam TDR125 and it has 40000 miles on the clock i was just wondeing if thats bad as its a two stroke also where the hell is the idle screw can some one send a pic please

Its not bad if it has been looked after - its probably had a full rebuild at some point in that 40k life but if its not rattling you could treat it to a new piston and rings.

The idle screw is on the side of the carb - the left IIRC

how much will it cost roughly for new piston and rings to be fitted also the idle screw seems to have fallen out but the bike runs but at 40mph it seems to judder and snatch which worries me a bit

decent piston and rings 40 quid gaskets 15ish quid re bore if needed 30 quid +labour

get yourself an idle screw m8 its there for a reason

judder and snatch could be chain/sprocket related are they worn ?

not they were quite new but i believe the chains too tight which i beleive will do the judder as well i think but i will check the chain and sprocket tommorow thanks for all the help much appricaiated i know the idle screw should be there but the last owner must have un screwed it too far and fell out which is a bit annoying

just to be sure are there any other screws on the bike like air or mix screw that i should look for

air mix screw should be just to the right of the idle screw and you should wind it all the way in then wind it out 1 and a half turns

how does the tdr125 charge the battery cause my batt wont charge

hi i dont have an air mix screw i have the idle hole but no air mix one,
 i can see a hole up and slightly to the right but that just has a bung in it no screw

 plus ive just looked at a carb on the net and there idle screw on was on the left if you were to look look from the back of the bike mine is on the right so im confused sorry

Post a picture of both sides of your carb.It will help a lot
Tdr charge the battery the same as a DT and do it by the regulator.Make sure your battery is good first though as batteries can be troublesome especially if they have run flat before.
Get a voltmeter and test the positive battery lead when the bike is running.If its making no or low voltage then change the regulator

ive been stupid and i have found some problems i went to bike place and showed me where it was :) but while i was following a wire back i found a loose battery wire the negative wire so im guessing that could be the charge problem woot also i at the bike shop they said clean the carb and change sprockets and chain
