complete idiot needs help!!

hi everyone,

Basically bought a dt-re a few months back after years of wanting one, its on a 56 plate, basically i'm wanting to fully open the power valve if poss, my bike has a full DEP fitted but apart from that i think its pretty basic.

The bike will get me to 75mph no problem but after that it just stays there, i hear of all these bikes pushing nearly a ton out and im wanting the same haha.

I've been given loads of different advice but none makes any sense to me wot so ever, and without totally f***ing my bike i want to get a power gain out of her.

Am i right in thinkin all i need to do is screw the pulleys on the power valve one fully up the other fully down or do i need to take the exhaust off etc, like i said i no totally nothing about bikes but am wanting to learn as much as possiable.

Any and all advice or guideance will be well appriciated cheers.

Paul.

I've never really played with the RE models like i have done the original dtr's so not 100% here. But from what i've heard you need to earth a wire from the cdi.Theres also a speedo restriction fitted in the speedo itself.Plus all the catalyst stuff but your dep should do away with all that.
If your hitting 75mph then the bike has already been derestricted in one of these areas.A fully restricted one will only hit 60mph
Do you feel the hit of the powerband at around 5.5k? If so then the YPVS is operating fine

yeah theres defo a decent kick mid range, but top end aint mental and to be honest all this wheelie in second seems way off on my bike must be me haha.

Theres no speedo restriction on the bike either already had alook for the spare wire etc, my bike is fast but seemingly not as much as othersno

and another thing is, when im needing to take the tank off to get the front exhaust off is it just a case of unscrewing it and lifting it off or do i need to block anything or that????

Just make sure the petrol tap is turned off before you remove the pipe.
Powerband on a dt with a stock front pipe hits at around 5.5k.Deps move it up the rev range slightly

i couldnt say for sure when it kicks in but defo somewhere mid range, no rev counter on ma bike, im not too sure about all this might just leave it as be haha,
I defo get the powerband kick tho, which i am pretty happy with but if theres a way o getting more outta the bike im willing to try it, coz its a learner legal it must only be putting out 14.1 ish bhp but i no itcan go up to 28bhp roughly, is it worth my time adjusting the powerband then??

28bhp = you'll be lucky unless its been tuned, in the real world you'll be looking at low 20's bhp wise full power.

Top speed on the clock should be around 85mph and this probably isnt true anyways - nearly a ton is pure dreamland stuff unless major work / gearing changes has been done.

DT's are meant for fun and 30mph off road feels more like 100mph on road biggrin

Best form of 'tuning' is looking after the bike and making sure its all serviced and set up correctly.

Make sure you post up some pics.

Paul ...

easy 75 ?

Yours is already de-restriced m8 !!

Go to ...
http://dtr125.net/tuningf.htm

Have a read ..

Then ...

Ignore the cutting of the reed block in the inlet manifold, not seen as a restriction ! by the masses here...

Don't piss about with the black plaggy bottles on the inlet [the top one is your YIES system, no one has any real answers to the one which screws to the frame near your left boot ! Leave it well alone ... !

Leave your Snorkel in the airbox ... leave the standard jetting ...

Clean your air filter ....

Fit a new spark plug [standard heat, don't feck with em !]....

Change your gearbox oil...

Check your chain & sprockets ..

Check your spokes ...

Use decent 2T oil ! ...

Your model [& mine !] has NO resriction switch in the speedo as such ...

But take your headlight off & look behind the speedo at the connector block [don't open the speedo !]
... is the wire stated in above link grounded out to earth / frame ?
I suspect it is on yours !! ??

So PV working properly ....

Other big restrict on yours is the pipe ... It's full [Proper FULL !] of CAT Convertor etc .. with wanky re- breath system pipe etc .. & the tailpipe is restrictive & whisper quiet !! But as your now full DEP .. no problems ...
Just check your rubber pipe which used to run up to the flap valve [Black thing, mounted just below headstock on O/S frame] has been blocked off ..
usually a 10mm bolt with tape round it, into end of tube / jubilee clip, taped up / tywrapped to other pipe which goes to airbox ...

stereo.gif

If your still not hitting the ton ...

Lose Weight ...

Find a bigger hill ....

Get down & dirrrty with your tank cap ....

Try base jumping with your DT ..

[But take your tank off first & post it to me !! wink]
