DEP fitting info needed

Guys,

I`m fitting a full DEP to a DT X RE SM 2004.

Dep supply 4 x 8mm washers and I believe they fit 2 each side. One on the outside of the flange and the other on the inside of the flange i.e cylinder/washer/flange/washer/nut.
Is this correct?

From what I see, there is no clamp or exhaust seal on the Dep where the silencer and front pipe join. Whereas the Yam exhaust has both fixed/welded to the silencer end. Cant be removed without destroying.

Looking at the DEP, its not got the castellated flange which contracts to make the seal on the silencer

So, do DEP sell this overpriced crap without even supplying the right bits to make it fit properly? Maybe I dropped a bit from the packaging and not noticed?

(I say overpriced considering joining any exhaust without sealing is not professional and its a fraction of the metal used, compared to a car exhaust, but costs as much).

Funny enough DEP do supply the Bung for the exhaust recirculation rubber pipe.

Spoiler

DEP must include that part as well, its probably a bolt on manifold with springs to hold the expansion chamber onto it like Big-One's do. Never looked up close so not 100% certain...

I do know that DEP rust like crazy and would probably benefit from being chromed properly from new.

to buy a new dep pipe is a complete waste of cash

we have said it a 1000 times already gut your standard exhaust and it will be better than a dep plus you have the added bonus of it not rusting or getting dinted every 5 mins

the head guys at dep aint stupid they target mostly young lads with there shiny exhausts at massive prices with promises of power gains and in reality these gains can be got for 20 quids worth of welding

ok fair enough you want something shiny for your bike !!

well have you ever consided getting your stock pipe chromed? im willing to bet that this would cost cheaper than a dep and it will never rust !!!!

dep are made from cheap ass thin metal and are not rust treated as they should be my advice would be to sell it why its still worth something b4 the dredded rot takes hold and gut your stock can:)

Hmm this thread going slightly off topic.

Anyway I answered my own question. DEP say the pipe expands during use and the join seals itself as the joint overlaps. Garage said it they never failed a DEP yet on MOT cos of a leak.

Funnny how many people here claim to have dep fitted but cant answer how they fitted it.

BAZ: Got it very cheap off Ebay.......like £90! Its cosher. It might rust, but then so does the Yamaha exhaust. No, its not possible to get it chromed cheaper than a DEP. Welding is about £30 and Chroming is £200 estimated by a company online. I dont know where else to try. The exhaust is severely rusted so requires quite some time sandblasting, chroming guy will do that but it takes time.........and of course these people want paying for the time. Fair Enough.

Anyway, I read that DEP dont rust as bad as the other choices, so conflicting stories, as per usual on the Internet. Ill take my chance witht eh DEP.

i have an 88 origional yam zorst on my bike so thats 21 years old bud, show me any aftermaket pipe that lasts that long!!!!

90 quid dosnt sound cheap to me for a worthless bit of metal which it will be in a few months

i was being generous when i said 20 quid for welding most guys here will do it for a pint and i dont know where you got that quote for chrome but you aint looking in the right places m8

you could even polish it to a chrome finish for peanuts

You can buy a one off spanny for 200 notes!
Chroming is a lot cheaper than that mate.
Take mine and Baz's advice and sell the Dep for a profit and gut the stock pipe.A dt will always make better power in any rev range than a dep pipe.A dep pipe sounds fast, thats about it.
The deps i have seen all have a welded flange which bolt straight to the manifold. No need for washers before the pipe.
