Which 2-stroke oil do you use? And where from?

Currently my 2-stroke bottle is full of Castrol Actevo which I just discovered is mineral oil, not the semi-sythetic type I thought it was.  Oops biggrin I think I will use the fully sythetic stuff next time I go to Halfords, but it's pretty expensive.  Where's the cheapest place to buy 2-stroke oil?

"A premium oil based on synthetic technology, exceeding highest international specifications and motorcycle manufacturers requirements." What does that mean exactly? Semi synthetic? I want to try full to see what the difference between full and mineral is, then I'll probably go to semi to save a few quid.

castrol TTS fully synthetic £ 10 / bottle though but it smells nice

OH and do not bother with semi-synthetic oils because by law there only has to be about 3-4 % synthetic oil in there so it's pretty much the same as mineral oil

£10 from where? It's £12 at Halfords :( That's the stuff I plan on buying anyway.

Another question... Seeing as my 2-stroke bottle is full of ****ty mineral stuff is it ok if I topped it up with the fully synthetic oil when I get some?

Shell Advance VSX is fully synthetic, they do make a semi synthetic though i think its just called Shell VSX, ive always used it because i always fill up with Shell V-Power and its convenient to pickup a bottle of oil whilst im paying for the petrol.

doesn't vpower contain a lot of ethanol which is a solvent that would mess up the oil supply?

The main reason i use it is because my mate had been running his speedfight 50 on it for 28,000km without a single engine problem and i ran my old speedfight 100 on it without any problems for 6,000km, im not quite sure how DT's run on V-power compared to normal petrol because ive never used normal petrol, but also, small engines need higher octane fuel to keep themselves from detonation, but most UK petrol is quite high octance anyway usually about 95 so theres still not much chance of detonation even with standard fuel, but i always say its better to be safe than sorry and for the extra few pence a litre i think its worth it.

I dont think shell(a major petrol/oil company) would sell petrol with ingredient that would kill engines and from personal experience ive never had any problems with the stuff.

i think DTpower youve got confused between ethanol and octane lol
ethanol kills engines .. see the top gear episode with the 24 hour race haha

not really bc the gas stations or petrol stations as you from the uk say ... in sweden mix ethanol with the gas  in 95 octane gas there is about 5% ethanol . so my guess would be that there is about 10 % ethanol in v power

semi synthetic is good enough especially if your dt is restricted, rock oil do a good semi synthetic or putoline.just make sure your 2 stroke oil is suitable for autolube systems as is on the dt,many of the fully synthetic 2 stroke oils arnt

i use now the TTS power 1 semi. was using the full. found that it caused adverse wear, which led to a new top end rebuild.I wont use it at all for running in an engine either..

Is it just me or have halfords stopped selling the Castrol TTS semi oil, all i can find now is this:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_263653_langId_-1_categoryId_165507#dtab

Says scooter on the front, never used to. It's still a semi i think, but is it alright to use in me DT still i'm wondering?

Castrol have discontinued TTS in a way, they have re-branded it Castrol Racing 2T, comes in a gold bottle. I'm not 100% sure if Halfrauds have it in stock yet, I didn't see any in my local yesterday, but if all else fails, www.opieoils.co.uk they sell ANY oil thats worth having

Yeah i did see that one there mammoth, Racing 2T but it's fully synthetic. I visited 3 different halfords today whilst out riding lol thinking they were out of stock but all had the same. Racing 2T - fully or scooter - semi.

Might have to switch which is a proper bummer as i liked the castrol and prefer the semi :)
