Ok i bought my son a Dtr 125 2004 as he was unhappy with his Nsr 125 as he does alot of mountainbike riding and the arse up head down of the Nsr didnt suit. He is also 6ft and looked a little silly on it , even though its big for a sports 125 .
Now i found via my local dealer the Dt which just had a £650 engine rebuild but was still overheating so the owner garaged it then stuck it up for sale . It also had a full dep zorst and new tyres .
The bad news was i had no idea what the fault with the engine was and he had not be so truthfull about the condition . Faults so far have been
Bald front tyre = He gave us a new spare Front pads down to the metal = Ordered new pads Bodywork in poor nick = Working on it :p Rear subframe in very poor condition = Stripped / derusted/ rust treated and painted Missing clutch lever/bracket/switch = Ordered replacment Front mudguard Snapped = Got one from Dtcrazy Starter motor screwed = Blanked off and convert to kickstart (thanks Dtcrazy) Lots of seized/broken/rusty/damaged fasteners = Ordered stainless kit
So tonight i stripped the head off as after speaking to the garage they told me they used a patern gasket kit . This is what i found
And 2 hours and 6 sheets of wet and dry later one non warped head . New Yamaha head gasket on order so all going well it should be running like a sweety when its all finished .
Why the dealer who did the £650 rebuild never fitted a decent yamaha gasket and skim the head since it went in with an overheating fault in the first place god knows .
Im afraid its just a basic refurb to get him on the road. I have no garage so all the bikes are kept in the house so im limited to what i can do atm . Will be moving soon and have a double garage so will doing a frame up rebuild of it and some custom stuff .
But atm its just fixing whats wrong and cleaning it up and making it survive the winter .
Well as per my engine post most of it back together .
Still waiting on some clutch bits from the stealer but popped down to my local engineering shop and got about 100 stainless nuts/bolts and washers for £4 hehe
Decided not to bother replacing the rear light (bolts sheared when i took it off) so just used silicon sealer to hold it onto the plastic .
Brakes all done . New ebc pads and new fluid (old fluid was like treacle ) . Planning to do stainless hoses but will get it through its MOT first .
Fitted stainless allen key engine kit which looks alot better .
Jobs still to do is
Finish clutch Change inlet manifold and fit stainless screw kit Refit zorst refit bodywork/tank
Well all fixed .. Engine runs sweet... Flew through its MOT (1 advisary) . Got home and while cooking dinner (bike was in the dinning room) Pshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh . Rear tyre dumped all its air lol
Valve had ripped itself out (i guess the pressure was abit low and the ride to the mot and back fecked it )
Fitted new tube but while the wheel was off checked the back brake . Sliding mech was seized .. piston was seized back of disk was fecked and so were pads lol .
A few big slaps with a hammer freed the sliding caliper but needed a fair bit of work to get it running smooth . Popped piston out and polished and cleaned seals so piston working ok . Cleaned and rubbed down pads as temp fix but need a rear disk and pads as there both fecked (disk has been run with pads down to the metal and has gouged the back of the disk)
So everything back together spent 20 mins coaxing the bleed nipple out and refilled with fluid and after 20 mins pumping and messing about we had zero fluid .
Stripped nipple out and had a good look at it . No hole !!! Over the years and with the nipple not having a cap water and crap had filled the bottom of the nipple/bleed hole .
So 20 mins with a small drill and a needle digging the **** out the hole and were back in business.. Bled brakes and all sorted..
Funny how such a simple thing can turn into a 2 hour job .
