no pulling power???

Hi all,

Looking for advice on a DT125 i've bought.

The bike kick starts 1st time everytimesmile
revs up perfectly then ticks over nicelysmile

But......when you put the bike under load it starts to pull then just loses all powercry
pull the clutch in and it starts to rev or idle perfectly.

I've removed the carb & cleaned it all out, changed the petrol for fresh stuff.

Any suggestions welcome.

Cheers

hows your compression? it could be clutch slip due to worn plates

Thanks, but don't think its the choke.
I put the choke on to start from cold then turn it off. If I put the choke on when its running warm the bike starts to die so I know the choke is turning on & off.

Would the power valve cause my problem?

I'll give it a try tonight with my hand but kicks over real easy with my foot.Starts 1st time.
But i'm comparing it to the CRF450 I have in the garage at the moment!!

Not sure if its the clutch, doesn't seem to slip like a clutch being xxxxed. To be honest its as if when under load its flooding its self.

if it was to fluid itself there would be a very strong smell of petrol and your overflow pipe would be spittting alot of fuel smile.gif

sounds like the clutch slipping to me, i test tractor clutches by putting it in top gear putting the hand brake on then letting the clutch out while giving it revs, if the clutch is ok it will stall the engine. I suppose you could do the same on a bike.

Ok...........tried the bike in top gear & let the clutch out, it stalled.
1st gear, dump the clutch and it wheel spins.
Tried holding the front break on and letting the clutch out, spinning back wheel.

Opened the power valve & it was out of position, re-aligned the valve & was slightly better.

But still seems to lose power after the initial pulling away.

Pulling my hair out!!!!!!!

Doesnt sound like a clutch to me , sounds like the engines fooked .

Could be electrical ( I know it's happened to me before on a few cars ) turned out to be plugs

UPDATE:

I've stripped the carb out again.
Stripped it right down & put it through the cleaning machine at work, bent the floats down slightly as I was pretty sure it sounded as tho it was flooding itself!! All back together now.

I've no battery or electrics to work the powervalve,so I removed the exhaust & aligned the powervalve flush with the exhaust port. (Pully sitting left of centre now)
Don't think I need to pin it as theres no power going to servo????

Mucked about with the idle speed screw, ticking over lovely.

Result...............

Pulls like a train! Lifts wheel in 1st and pulls up through the rev range.
biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Next stop to fit some brakes!!!

Well done!

BTW the pulley should be pinned or the vibrations / gas pressure could cause it to move.

cheers for advice on pulley.

How do I pin it in place if it is now sitting left of centre?

The pulley is connected to the servo with the 2 cables, to turn the valve in one direction I had 2 use a 10mm socket on the pulley & to move it back a monkey wrench on the servo end, it wouldn't turn just with hand pressure. Do you think this will be tight enough or is there the chance it could still move?
