On my way home from college my bike had nooooo power at 6k rpm+ and it went really quiet like i had the oringal exhaust on, And bout a mile from my house it went back to normal, What you recon is caused it to loose top end power and make it really quiet ?
I warm the bike up by revin it to 5k rpm for like 3 mins then let it tick over while i unlock the bike and get my lid and gloves on.
maybe abit of a flat battery, and not opening the powervalve :S but with the bike running i dont think it would be that :S would it still rev past 6k just not much power?
also, its worth a check where abouts the reed switch is, i think its a magnet :S if its been knocked it may be switching like its moved, tape it down :D worth a check, only take 2 min
I have just mentioned this in another post though it was my intention to respond to this post first.
Having experience exactly the same problem as described I am almost 100% certain that this is caused by a corroded spade connector to the temperature sensor. This was the problem in my case.
If the ECU does not see that the bike is up to temperature it will restrict the powervalve and hence prevent the bike reaching the powerband. This in turn limits the revs and prevents engine damage (from over-reving when cold). You will also find the bike is quieter because the exhaust is partially blocked by the restriction placed on the power valve by the ECU.
The temperature gauge may read nearly normal but may be falsely just under the threshold defined by the ECU.
Remedy - some mild abrasion on the electrical contacts and a slight squeeze of the spade connector with a pair of plier. Took me 12 hours to find this fault and only a few minutes to fix.
This happened to me once, it may not be the case for you BUT my problem was the Powervalve wire that you earth to allow the powervalve to work as it should had come loose! Simple fix all i did was loosen bolt of took a bit more paint of behind the bolt and made sure the wire was secure then hey perstow it went like stink again ;)
