Got the DT home on Saturday night after buying it and many bits off Miffer.
Worked on it for a few hours on sunday, Managed to free off the clutch, with a bit of tooing and frowing can now select all gears Polished the rims up, came out quite well.
The general plan is:
Drain bottom end of diesel as im 99% sure it is still very much useable. New piston kit and gasket set, Barrel looks good, no scoring or chips etc. Fresh gearbox oil, 2 stroke and fuel and pray it starts!
The plan after that is still undecided. Although im sway towards a complete strip down, repaint with new panels and graphics. This will most likey happen
The Dep looks good n all! Are the kids sending you messages trying to buy it yet?
You'll have to make a vid of it running, so I can watch it and cry... Still gutted I had to sell to be honest Ah well -one day I'll find another hopefully.
As for the gudgeon pin- maybe if you isolated the top part of the conrod and got it gripped very securely and kept still, you could heat it up a bit and tap the pin out?? I'm no mechanic, but it could work.
I never attempted to get the pin out, but that would have been my approach.
Maybe someone on here has a better suggestion?
I think you're right about the bottom end- it may be fine as is. The sideways play in the conrod seemed about right according to the Haynes. Think its said something like 1mm or so each way.
Best of luck mate -I reckon you'll get it running in no time and put me to shame. It's been sat in my van since summer (I'm a fair weather mechanic)

my dealer is ripping me off then.. I know for deffo the one for my re was over £10.. I dont think there is any difference between the newer or older ones either... I know there was a few revisions of the head but the gaskets look identical..

delve how did you fit supermoto wheels without changing the forks? looks good tho mate, think a full strip down and powdercoat would sound good as your nearly got it fully stipped now
Im not sure on the colours yet, maybe white with blue graphics and blue seat? I really cant decide atm.
The front wheel goes right in the forks fine, the only trouble is the caliper. needs a bracket to space it out to correct distance. Altough i will probaly just have to get DTX forks.
Im gonna get the engine going before i worry about stripping it down more.
I keep hearing people say that but I personally wouldnt trust a bracket made up , dont care hwo well it was made . End of the day style isnt woth your life mate . Easier option would be to just build the front riml onto your hubs , or get X forks as stated .
