basicly been offroading all weekend with new tyres on and noticed on the way back today that my bike wouldnt go past 65 in 6th n usauly goes off the clock it hasent lost any power its all fine untill you go into 6th then it goes down to 60 n stays at that could it be the tyres i put on as there bigger for offroad??
mine had no top end rev power and was rattling, top speed of 60-65ish.. piston looked like this.. https://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac14/craigbulmer/IMG_0162.jpg
but mine was slowly dying, sounds like yours has just happened, must be something else
nope no knocks or rattles i dont think it would be the piston as bikes only done 4500miles but it could be il go out ther tommoz n av a good look at it need to give it a good clean anyway
could be air leak from being knocked, also as craig said pv setup or back pressure(eg hole in exhaust), also failing all of the above cdi unit and alternator
yeah that wass the 1st thing i checked but even when i didnt have the wire earth it still went of the clock 1 of my mate reckons that water coukld of got in the spark plug cap but surly it wouldnt start at all then would it?
it could still run but very badly and would smoke and not idle properly, try you pv setup and get a compression tester on it bud, also see if you can borrow some1's cdi to test it and eliminate
ok il try the plug in a mo and pv again if not then il see if a mate will let me use his cdi hopefully its just something stupid dont fancy having to pay alot of money out on it
nah you wont have to spend money out on it I wouldnt have thought.. I was thinking maybe a crappy spark and thats easy to test... should be nice and blue.. plug should be brown too..
Normally when my dtre does what yours is doing its because of the derestriction wire but you should still get more than 65 just you lose your power in the higher revs so its much harder to get past 60.. If yours is has power in the higher revs then its got to be something simple
also ive found you need to get quite high up in the revs on 5th before changing upto 6th on slight inclines else you lose power...
if its got power in the higher revs it prob aint compression/pv/spark probs...
