While my bike is off the road im gona change the brake pads, any maybe the hoses. Are there any aftermarket pads that will make the breaking better or are they all the same? And when im doing it should i change the piston and seals? And craig if i haven't spoken to you on msn before you see this did the new hoses do anything for you?
if your changing the pads, put sinthered ones in they are better apparently .. only read it not tried it! my pads have plenty of meat on them but will change them to sinthered next time.
i think the brake hoses have really improved my brakes! muchhhhhh better! you can actually stop. Pulled an endo as i rolled into the garage lol
danke just need to know if its worth doing a complete caliper overhaul or leaving it the same, and anyone know about these sintered ones? (can you tell its payday tomorrow?)
You need a caliper repair kit from Yamaha / ebay - comes with a new piston and 2 seals (one dust, one fluid) - plus you can clean up and paint the scabby caliper body at the same time.
Where's the bike been, the bottom of the ocean?? lol
haha looks that way dont it ben lol, i think it's just cos of the girt on the roads and my outside tap has been frozen so much i haven't washed it as often as usual. dont i need some grease aswell or will that be included in the kit?
farkin el.. you cant take pics for sheet!! focus boy! lol
anyway that looks well manky.. someone hasnt been looking after their calipers! they all do it though. common on dt's.. rear calipers seem to go to crap quicker than the fronts. just my experiences.. the newer 06/07 onwards they used a diff rear caliper and the pistons seem to be designed to stop wrecking seals and then consequently the piston...
if the bleed nipple is siezed in then you will need a banjo bleed nipple... and they seize in too... I know cos my ive snapped both!
once you have recon'd the caliper (at the cost of a whole secondhand caliper!) make sure you clean the piston/caliper everytime you change pads (sintered wear out quicker!) and you wont end up with sh!tty calipers or at least make em last a bit longer...

element its my farkin camera init lol, wont take close ups for sheet. Look in the background its cyrstal clear :D.
Got the bleed nipple out, hammered a 7mm socket on and gave it some oomph and it came undone. I did tap it a few times with a hammer first and let some wd-40 soak in.
New problem, went to put some dot4 into the front master cylinder and found the screws facking rounded off :@ managed to get one out pushing the screwdriver in as hard as possible while turning it but the other one is completely fooked nothing for the screw driver to grip.
Ordered some sintered pads that gaz recommended for pat and ordered some braided brake lines just waiting for them to turn up.
ahh u went and used a screwdriver on a ****ty bolt!!!! noooooo
you wanna use those little screwdriver pieces (you know those ones in kits for drills n multi screwdrivers etc) and tap it into the head so it fits snugg then use a 6.5mm socket and that fits over the screwdriver piece easy then while putting weight on it try and wrench it off.. works everytime if you havent already destroyed the bolt! hopefully you got a bit left to grip on.. if so this method works better than a screwdriver which just wrecks it even more..
spray some wd on it before you try aswell..
I use this for every crosshead bolt on the dt.. trust me use a normal screwdriver and if it dont grip right you will fck it and its a right headache ESPECIALLY the front mastercylinder cos its recessed and you cant just hacksaw a slot into it..
if its really fckd then your only option is to drill it out...... do that wrong and you'll need a new master cylinder... (which are only £20 btw and prob you best bet... can alway get the bolt out later then sell it on)

yeah mate got stainless bleed nipples ordered :D and ive got new brake lines with stainless fittings ordered (how long did yours take to come?) BUT ive found a major problemo i removed the rear wheels and took the caliper hanger off so i could spray it and started to clean it when i uncovered this ...
:( is it weldable? i've got access to mig, arc and oxyacetylene (and im good at using them lol) and i know all the lads at a local ag engineering firm that have tig welders so they'll weld me stuff for free. Or should i just get a new one ?? :(
that confirmed my suspisions lol, thought it was cast aly. As you say its almost impossible to get a weld to hold on it. Good job gaz had one spare lol
