its normal, healdight on a DT runs completely off the alternator.
dont think it does on the newest DT but DTRs do, bit annoying but you get used to it.

you know it running off the alternator because when you turn the key the lights dont come on like alot of other bikes, rear light does though

why would you even want to do that haha?
battery weighs like one or two kg. just dont eat breakfast b4 riding if your that obsessed with weight haha.

it wont clean itself for riding, would probably be okay tho

Ive read on here that some ppl have had problems with the power valve opening when they have a faulty battery

tbh, for the weight, its not worth not having a battery!

You need a battery to protect the CDI apparently, look on ebay for a battery eliminator (basically a big capacitor)

My old DT200WR used this method to run without a battery and was just as good as the 125R for flickering lights etc

have just read these last bits, will the bike not have problems starting without a battery or does this only apply to kick start as it is different to electric start, i might have this completely wrong though?

for the bike to start without a battery, the alternator will need to collect enough charge, it will need to have the wheels turning to turn the fly wheel.

without a battery it wouldnt work with the kick start (or electric lol) will have to be bump started everytime ............... i think.

and then without a battery, things might not work so well. just better to have one. and tbh its abit silly not to have one, its 2kg at most. not exactly going to give you 20 more miles an hour .......
